Ducati’s Dominance Diminishing: Reduced Grid Presence in 2025 Promises Closer MotoGP Competitions
Ducati has indicated that having "two fewer" motorcycles in next year's lineup will lead to "a more balanced competition."
"I'm thrilled that, next year, we'll see two fewer bikes on the track."
Ducati's commanding performance at the German MotoGP on Sunday is attributed to their numerical superiority in terms of bikes compared to their competitors, according to claims. However, this advantage is not expected to persist into the next season.
Pramac's switch to Yamaha will decrease the number of Ducati bikes in the grid from eight to six in 2025.
On Sunday, at the Sachsenring circuit, Ducati's official competitor, Pecco Bagnaia, clinched the grand prix victory, surpassing the Gresini team members Marc and Alex Marquez, following Jorge Martin of Pramac's drop from the front position.
Enea Bastianini and Franco Morbidelli fiercely competed to secure the fourth and fifth positions.
The day before, Miguel Oliveira and Raul Fernandez from Trackhouse Aprilia secured the second and third positions in the qualifying round. In the sprint race, Oliveira crossed the finish line in second place.
Commentator Simon Crafar emphasized, “This illustrates the ideal scenario where Ducati fields eight bikes in the race.
Every day, they consistently resist.
On Saturdays, they make progress by advancing a step.
On Saturday, they managed to remain unmatched by any other brand.
"Ducati made advancements in their electronics this past Sunday."
He further explained, "It's evident that having eight bikes along with their respective technicians, crew chiefs, and riders all collaborating, using the data gathered from Friday and improving upon it on Saturday, leads to significant progress by Sunday."
"I strongly believe it's a zone related to electronics. Moreover, Pecco's motorcycle lacked the modifications it possessed the previous Saturday."
They continuously seek a path to progress.
"I'm thrilled that, come next year, the grid will have two fewer participants."
It levels the playing field among the other producers who struggle to make progress.
"The issue isn't that the manufacturers are uninformed. Rather, it's the challenge of managing the abundance of data coming from eight motorcycles."
Bagnaia's triumph on Sunday propelled him past Martin in the MotoGP rankings, positioning him at the forefront.
Martin was nearing a win when he suffered a crash, leading to Bagnaia's better tire management ultimately securing the victory.
"Crafar expressed sympathy for Jorge, stating, 'I just can't help feeling sorry for him.'"
Pecco noted the distinctive strategy they employed, observing that Jorge's counterattack and subsequent distancing was his major effort at that moment, leveraging his tyres.
It was evident that Pecco was proceeding with caution.
"Subsequently, during the final stage, Pecco capitalized on the remaining life of his tyres."
Critics might claim it was handed to Pecco, yet his strategy throughout the race was astute.
He was aware of the simplicity in slipping up due to that front tyre, especially in the final stretch, when the tension was high. He continuously applied the pressure, relentlessly increasing it.
Frankie relied on the tire to keep pace and battle, yet ultimately lacked the stamina to finish strong.
"The key takeaway: Pecco executed it flawlessly."
