Daniel Ricciardo Champions RB’s Evolution Beyond ‘Junior Team’ Status Amid Major Restructuring
Daniel Ricciardo highlights significant choices advancing RB beyond their 'youthful' phase
"Should it still seem like a younger squad, I'd feel uneasy staying"
Daniel Ricciardo firmly believes that RB has transcended its status as just a junior team.
They've undergone a name and brand transformation from AlphaTauri, the team Ricciardo linked up with in the middle of the previous season, which served as a sibling team to Red Bull.
Despite maintaining ties with Red Bull, Ricciardo highlights proof that demonstrates Red Bull Racing stands as a significant force within Formula 1 on its own merits.
"He acknowledged a noticeable change, emphasizing that while it's straightforward to claim a refreshed identity and aesthetic, it is crucial that these claims are backed up by tangible actions."
Former Ferrari executive Laurent Mekies stepped into the role of team principal following the retirement of Franz Tost at the close of the previous year.
Peter Bayer was appointed as CEO, Alan Permane took on the role of racing director, and Tim Goss is set to join as the chief technical officer in significant shifts aimed at boosting the RB team's performance.
"Ricciardo mentioned, 'I believe Laurent, Peter, Alan, and many others who joined have achieved that.'"
"It's not to say that the situation involving Franz in the past, as illustrated, wasn't appropriate, but sometimes a change can be beneficial.
"You introduce fresh perspectives. Everyone has experience from various groups, companies, and honestly, it's simply a different approach to viewing matters."
"Their approach and objectives have prompted a response from people, acknowledging that they are no longer seen as a lesser team."
Ricciardo emphasized, "We're making significant decisions, stepping out on a limb, and establishing ambitious goals, ones that we genuinely believe are achievable."
"It's interesting, really. Observing it is quite fascinating. In a sense, my own transparency with myself means that if it seemed like an inexperienced team, I wouldn't be at ease here. I'm 35 now.
"Hence, my feeling of being somewhat misplaced might be expected, but in reality, it's not the case, which likely serves as an effective means to understand the situation."
However, Ricciardo's career prospects remain unclear.
He was passed over for a mid-season upgrade to Red Bull, as they chose to continue supporting the struggling Sergio Perez.
Ricciardo's contract with RB expires at the conclusion of this season, and he has not secured a new agreement yet.
During the latter part of the current Formula 1 season, the experienced Australian driver faces significant pressure to demonstrate his worth in order to maintain his position in the competition.
