Cal Crutchlow Withdraws from Silverstone Wildcard Entry; Remy Gardner Steps in as Replacement
Additional surgery and complications related to a hand injury lead to Cal Crutchlow's exit
Cal Crutchlow has had to pull out from his one-off appearance at the British MotoGP at Silverstone.
Remy Gardner is set to compete for Yamaha, taking Crutchlow's slot from August 2nd to 4th.
"Regrettably, I won't be able to make it to my wildcard entry in this year's Monster Energy British GP at Silverstone," Crutchlow declared.
Two months previously, I underwent a hand operation, but the healing process has been unexpectedly challenging, resulting in the need for an additional surgery and subsequent complications.
"It's crucial that I allow my hand to completely recover before attempting to get back on the MotoGP motorcycle."
I eagerly anticipate my return to collaborate with my Yamaha Factory Racing MotoGP Test Team, aiming to resume our efforts in enhancing the performance package for this year and the next for the Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP Team.
"This season, there's been noticeable advancement, all due to the relentless effort of everyone involved with Yamaha and the crew. I'm looking forward to an exhilarating British Grand Prix this year and wishing everyone a fantastic weekend!
"In conclusion, I want to extend my best wishes to Remy, encouraging him to enjoy himself. He's familiar with the MotoGP motorcycle and recently had the opportunity to experience the Yamaha during the previous race in Germany, making this an ideal moment for him to get back on the bike."
In place of the previous arrangement, Yamaha's World Superbike competitor, Gardner, who also participated in the recent MotoGP event in Germany, will receive a new chance to showcase his skills.
Gardner stated, "To begin with, I want to express my hope for Cal's swift recovery. I saw him a week ago, and it's my hope he'll be able to return to riding and contribute to the MotoGP project."
"Clearly, it's a great chance to be back on the M1, so I'm genuinely pleased."
"I enjoy racing at Silverstone and I'm eager to provide valuable insights to both Yamaha and the team, while also savoring the experience. A big thank you to everyone at Yamaha; I'm excited about getting back on the track!"
