Cadillac’s 2026 Vistiq: A Glimpse into the Future with 300-Mile Electric Range and High-End Luxuries
Cadillac has revealed more specifics about the Vistiq, a three-row electric SUV set to debut next year as a 2026 model, aiming for a 300-mile range and priced at $78,790.
General Motors is set to commence manufacturing at its Spring Hill plant in Tennessee, the same location where the Lyriq is assembled, beginning early 2025. Customers can expect to receive their vehicles later that same year. The starting price for the first available Platinum model will be $78,790, which includes an obligatory $1,395 fee for delivery. Subsequent releases will include more affordable versions such as the Luxury, Sport, and Premium Luxury models.
Unveiled nearly a year back, the Vistiq is positioned in Cadillac's lineup between the compact two-row Lyriq and the expansive, three-row Escalade IQ. Measuring 205.5 inches in length, 86.7 inches in width, and standing at 71.0 inches in height, it surpasses the Lyriq in both length and height. However, it maintains a nearly similar width and has the same 121.8-inch wheelbase.
Cadillac Vistiq, set to release
The Vistiq is equipped with a typical two-motor all-wheel drive system that delivers 615 horsepower and 650 pound-feet of torque. Cadillac claims this setup enables the vehicle to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.7 seconds when utilizing its Velocity Max launch-control feature.
Cadillac projects that the Vistiq will be able to travel approximately 300 miles on a single charge of its 102-kilowatt-hour battery, although the official EPA evaluations will not be released until it's nearer to the vehicle's release date. The Vistiq will initially feature 21-inch wheels, with options to upgrade to either 22-inch or 23-inch sizes, which may affect the vehicle's travel range.
Cadillac suggests that with the available 19.2-kilowatt onboard charger, it's possible to gain approximately 46.7 miles of driving distance for every hour of charging. In line with the latest electric vehicles from General Motors, the Vistiq is equipped with the ability to charge in both directions. This means it can provide power back to a home when equipped with the necessary GM accessories, effectively acting as an emergency power supply.

The Cadillac Vistiq has the capability to recharge up to 79 miles worth of battery in approximately 10 minutes through DC fast charging. It remains unclear if the vehicle will come equipped with a Combined Charging Standard (CCS) port, which would necessitate an adapter for use with Tesla Supercharger stations, or if it will be outfitted with the Tesla North American Charging Standard (NACS) port following GM's announcement that it plans to integrate this standard in its electric vehicles starting from 2025.
Optional features include an adjustable air suspension and the ability to steer the rear wheels, although this doesn't include the diagonal driving feature known as Arrival Mode (originally GMC's CrabWalk) found on the Escalade IQ. Additionally, a road noise cancellation feature can be added to reduce the sound of tires on the road.

VinFast VF 9 Electric SUV Begins U.S. Deliveries: A New Contender in the EV Market
Monday saw the commencement of deliveries for Vinfast's VF 9 electric SUV, featuring three rows, with a small batch reaching their new owners in the U.S.
At its LA base, the firm organized a modest gathering where it distributed the initial batch of nine cars to their respective buyers. Beyond this symbolic assembly, the rollout of vehicles to customers who pre-booked is in progress throughout Vinfast's retail framework, which includes 36 dealer locations and 15 outlets owned by the company in California, as communicated to Green Car Reports by Vinfast's representative, Jeff Holland.

The VF 9 received its EPA certification and was greenlit for sales in the United States in 2023, ahead of the increased distribution of the smaller VF 8 model. The EPA's assessment of the vehicle's range remains unchanged at 330 miles for the standard Eco variant and 291 miles for the higher-end Plus model. However, the initial prices quoted by Vinfast in 2023 have since been reduced, making the VF 9 more competitively priced against the Kia EV9, with the added benefit of a slightly longer driving range.
In 2022, Vinfast abandoned its distinct approach of a battery lease program, subsequently increasing the entry-level cost to $83,000 for their Eco version and $91,000 for the Plus variant. Currently, the company has set a new starting price at $69,800 for the Eco and $73,800 for the Plus models. Additionally, Vinfast is extending a promotional deal to the first 100 buyers, offering a lease on the Plus model for $529 monthly with a $2,000 initial payment, claiming this equates to a saving of $3,500. The first batch of vehicles to be delivered will be the Plus model, with the Eco model's delivery scheduled for "later this year," as per Vinfast's statement.

The VF 9 features a two-motor AWD system with a power capability of 402 horsepower and a torque of 457 pound-feet, enabling the Eco model to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in an estimated time of 6.6 seconds (with the Plus model trailing by just 0.1 second). The manufacturer asserts that the vehicle's 123-kWh battery can be powered up from 10% to 70% within a span of 35 minutes.
Vinfast's initial foray into the American market has encountered some difficulties. A test drive of the VF 8 model the previous year raised concerns about its preparedness for consumers. Despite expanding its sales network by including franchise dealerships along with its own retail outlets, the firm was not meeting its sales goals earlier this year. Furthermore, in July, Vinfast postponed the opening of its anticipated factory in North Carolina, pushing the date back to 2028 from the initially projected 2025.

Mini has decided to postpone the introduction of the revamped electric Cooper hatchback and the brand new Aceman electric city car to the American market, though it hasn't ruled out the possibility of them being sold in the U.S. in the future.
MotoringFile initially broke the story, which was subsequently verified by Mini's representative Andrew Cutler in a statement to Green Car Reports. Cutler emphasized that until now, Mini had not reached a conclusion regarding the release of both vehicle models in the U.S. and Canadian markets.

This manufacturing origin disqualifies it from the U.S. federal EV tax incentive because of the policies concerning foreign entities.
Mini has set a target to fully transition to electric vehicles by 2030, currently offering three electric models including the Cooper, Countryman, and Aceman. However, this shift towards electric may happen at a slower pace in the U.S.

The base model comes equipped with a 168-kwh battery, which Ram predicts will provide a range of up to 350 miles. Additionally, Ram claims that with 350-kw DC fast charging, the vehicle can regain roughly 100 miles of range in approximately 10 minutes.

The new Electrified GV70 will feature an enhanced battery capacity and extended driving range, improvements that are highly anticipated. While specific figures haven't been disclosed by Genesis, the 2025 Electrified GV70 boasted a 236-mile range as per EPA ratings. With the battery size increasing from 77.4 kwh to 84 kwh, it's expected that the range will easily exceed 250 miles.

2025 GMC Sierra EV Denali Review: A Heavyweight Multitasking Marvel on Narrow Trails
Critique: The all-new electric 2025 GMC Sierra EV Denali excels at juggling various tasks.

I shared my partial astonishment with the person beside me as we got into a 2025 GMC Sierra EV and started our journey, navigating the tight roads among the Redwoods and along portions of Skyline Boulevard in the Bay Area.
I had a good recollection of the pathways; the journey consisted of various winding stretches of road along the hills which I had a great time driving through previously in a compact Volkswagen GTI. However, I totally misjudged the Sierra EV's capabilities.
Measuring approximately 233 inches in length and 84 inches in width, excluding mirrors, the sizable electric truck handled constricted paths with surprising ease. Its rear-wheel steering allowed for precise maneuvering, as it turns the rear wheels slightly in the opposite direction to the front wheels during tight, low-speed turns. The Sierra EV's dual-motor system provided immediate power, ensuring we maintained a steady climb uphill, while the air suspension system contributed to a balanced ride. Additionally, the effective regenerative braking system, with its Normal and High settings, helped us maintain appropriate speeds during sharp descents.

I approached the day already aware of the truck's impressive claimed range of 460 miles and its quick acceleration capabilities—there was no need to convince me of its ability to silently surge to 60 mph in 4.5 seconds, if not less. Yet, GMC guided us on a journey I wouldn’t have picked for myself, filled with winding roads, some towing, a bit of off-roading to showcase the rear-wheel steering's incredible agility and the helpful camera angles, along with a test of the CrabWalk feature, which aligns the rear wheels with the front. They also threw us into a quick-paced challenge to pack an array of recreational equipment into the Sierra EV.
As the day concluded, it was a learning experience. GMC didn't create an eccentric design (unlike the Cybertruck), target the adventure enthusiasts (like the R1T), nor did they just electrify their best-selling truck (similar to the F-150 Lightning).
The GMC Sierra EV finds its place alongside the GMC Hummer EV within the GMC range. The distinction between them is made clear by the brand, which suggests that while the Hummer EV is considered the showpiece pickup, the Sierra EV is the workhorse. In terms of what it brings to the market, it stands out significantly more. For those in need of maximum space for bulky goods and extensive range capabilities for towing and carrying heavy loads, the Sierra EV is the go-to option.

The upcoming 2025 GMC Sierra EV impresses with one of the highest range figures in the market, not due to exceptional efficiency but owing to its hefty battery capacity. It features two dual-layer battery packs that can be linked in series, enabling 800-volt DC rapid charging. The larger 205 kWh Max Range battery pack is estimated by GM to deliver 460 miles, while the smaller 170 kWh Extended Range version provides 390 miles. The Max Range's estimate is not EPA-rated since its significant battery size places the Sierra EV in a heavier vehicle category not covered by standard EPA metrics.
During our test drive covering close to 90 miles across diverse roads and highways, the Sierra EV's onboard computer indicated an efficiency of 1.9 miles per kilowatt-hour. This implies that we could potentially achieve a driving range exceeding 390 miles under similar conditions.
The large-capacity battery expands potential uses. With the Extended Range option, the Sierra EV is capable of towing up to 10,500 pounds, or 10,000 pounds if equipped with the Max Range option. Even though towing might cut the driving range by half, it's less of a concern in this context.

During a brief test run while pulling a 5,500-pound trailer, the Sierra EV appeared largely unaffected, showing acceleration capabilities surpassing that of a heavily burdened minivan. When put through a course with two instances of full acceleration, it maintained an average of 1.0 miles per kilowatt-hour as per the onboard trip computer—suggesting a potential towing range of up to 200 miles with a hefty load such as a horse trailer or sizable boat.
The model I tested offers a maximum range, producing as much as 760 horsepower and 785 pound-feet of torque, thanks to a pair of permanent magnet motors crafted by GM. While the Extended Range models maintain nearly identical components, except for the battery pack, they generate a slightly lower 645 horsepower, yet the torque remains the same at 785 pound-feet.

The impressive performance stats and swift 4.5-second 0-60 mph time for the Max variant are exclusively available in the Max Power setting. In addition to this, the Sierra EV offers a variety of driving modes including Normal-Tour, Off-Road, Tow-Haul, and an option for personalized settings. GM has not disclosed the maximum power output for these alternate modes.
The Sierra EV features an 11.0-cubic-foot front trunk, or eTrunk, complete with amenities such as a cupholder, drainage system, and weatherproofing. However, the real highlight in terms of adaptable storage is the Midgate. This innovative feature allows you to quickly transform the rear seating area into an extended cargo bed. With this adjustment, you can achieve a cargo length of 9 feet and 1 inch with the tailgate up, or an even longer space of 10 feet and 10 inches when the tailgate is down and the flip-down tailgate step is utilized to secure lengthy objects, such as a kayak.
Experts have pointed out that the Midgate feature is designed for frequent, not sporadic use. Although it isn't resistant to the elements, it serves as an excellent option for transporting equipment a short distance to a starting location without the need for specialized hauling equipment. Additionally, it allows for the convenience of keeping one of the rear seats occupied even while it's in use.

While the GMC Sierra shares many similarities with the Chevrolet Silverado EV RST, it distinguishes itself in the electric vehicle and pickup segments in several ways. For its 2024 model year, the Sierra EV is available exclusively in the high-end Denali edition, which includes the most comprehensive options such as the largest available battery, air suspension, steering for the rear wheels, and a suite of features that position it as one of the most upscale offerings in the full-size pickup category.
In the latest update for the 2025 models, we're seeing minor adjustments in pricing, the introduction of an Extended Range option, and an increase of 20 miles in the Max Range variant, attributed to enhancements in motor efficiency. I spent my time evaluating the premium Sierra EV Denali model with the Max Range option, which carries a starting price of $100,495. This figure includes the $2,095 destination charge, but excludes any extra costs for towing and storage add-ons.
The Sierra EV Denali model comes equipped with features such as an adjustable air suspension, steering for the back wheels, a wide sunroof, and front seats that both heat and cool. It boasts leather seats, a steering wheel that heats up, heated rear seats, a display projected onto the windshield, compatibility with wi-fi hotspots, and a seven-speaker system from Bose. It also includes a wireless charging pad ingeniously built into a movable console tray, alongside an abundance of USB-C connections and a 120-volt power outlet within the cabin. Moreover, it features a 7.2-kw AC power supply that could potentially negate the necessity for a portable generator at campsites or construction sites.
During my short time testing the Sierra EV, I didn't have the opportunity to plug it in for a recharge. The maximum charging speeds are advertised at 350 kw for the Max Range model and 300 kw for the Extended Range model. According to GM, when using a 350-kw CCS charging station, the vehicle can regain roughly 100 miles of driving distance in a mere 10 minutes. Previously, GM has stated that these battery options can charge from 10% to 80% in around 40 minutes. To assist in reaching these optimal charging speeds, GMC has incorporated a battery warming system that can be activated through the built-in navigation system or by a digital button.

The Sierra EV comes with GM's advanced Super Cruise technology, which offers three years of hands-free driving and semi-automatic lane shifting on a network of over 750,000 miles of pre-mapped roads and highways, provided the driver remains alert. This feature has been updated to function even while pulling a trailer. During a test with a 5,500-pound trailer, I activated Super Cruise and noticed it maintained the vehicle's lane position and controlled the speed effectively through regenerative braking. However, the technology isn't flawless or fully dependable. For instance, while driving on US-101 near Palo Alto, the system frequently turned off due to its inability to detect the road’s worn and irregular lane markings, which were otherwise clearly visible to us.
GMC has successfully designed their vehicle interiors to be quite spacious for individuals with a taller stature, both in the front and back seats, providing ample space above and an excellent outward visibility. The seating is both luxurious and firm, ensuring comfort in both the front and back.
The interior of the vehicle is remarkably hushed, thanks to a trio of features: a noise suppression capability integrated into the Bose sound system, enhanced sound insulation relative to other GMC models, and sound-dampening windows. Together, these elements create a serene atmosphere akin to that of a high-end automobile.
The atmosphere is maintained in this Denali model, featuring exquisite stitching on the ventilated front seats, intricately designed speaker covers, precisely cut wooden accents, and a consistently precise assembly throughout. Time will tell if these high-quality standards will remain in the upcoming more affordable models.

GMC anticipates introducing cost-effective Sierra EV AT4 and Elevation versions by 2025, yet it remains unclear if these will be designated as 2025 or 2026 models. Production will continue to be restricted until these plans are set in motion.

Next year, the Ceed will be replaced by a new model, and the Sportage will undergo a redesign, which has already been unveiled in Korea. As a result, the current versions of these vehicles are now available in a new limited "Ultimate Edition" series.
The name is derived from the finishing straight where the current series of models stand. This special edition is based on the basic Vision model, yet for a relatively small additional cost, it includes a wide range of extra features, positioning it roughly at the level of the more upscale Spirit variant.

The engine options include various turbocharged gasoline units: a 1.0-liter three-cylinder engine delivering 100 horsepower (73.6 kW) and a 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine with 140 horsepower (103 kW) for the Ceed models, and for the Sportage, a 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 160 horsepower (118 kW). These engines can be paired with either a six-speed manual transmission or a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT). All automatic versions, as well as the manual Sportage, come standard with a 48-volt mild hybrid system.
Purchasers of the Ultimate Edition have the added advantage of participating in Kia's trade-in offer: Until December 31, 2024, individual customers who trade in their used car of any brand at authorized Kia dealerships will receive a trade-in bonus of 5,000 euros for a new Sportage, and a bonus of 4,000 euros for the Ceed and Ceed Sportswagon models.
Every new Kia vehicle, including the Ultimate Edition, comes with the standard 7-year Kia manufacturer's warranty and a 7-year update for the Kia navigation maps. The convenience of over-the-air (OTA) functionality allows for easy updates of maps and software without the need to take the vehicle to a dealership.

The top-tier version of the Ceed and its estate variant come equipped straight from the factory with features such as a 10.25-inch navigation system, a smart key, dual-zone automatic climate control, heated and height-adjustable front seats with electric lumbar support, a heated leather steering wheel, a rearview camera, an electronic parking brake, parking sensors at the front and rear, 16-inch alloy wheels, and for the Sportswagon model, an added cargo net and roof rails.
Additionally, the vehicle comes equipped with a variety of safety features including a front collision alert system with pedestrian and cyclist detection, an active blind spot monitor with steering and braking adjustments, lane keeping and lane following assistance, smart speed control, a drowsiness alert, and automatic high beam adjustments. For those models with the DCT transmission, there's also a navigation-guided adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capabilities and an advanced front collision system that includes an intersection function.
As an option, customers can opt for a high-end JBL sound system that features eight speakers, including a subwoofer, and a package that comes with 17-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, and tinted windows starting from the B-pillar for added privacy. The available exterior colors include Carrara White and metallic options such as Zilina Black, Lunar Silver, Yucca Steel Grey, and Pentametal, with an additional charge for metallic paints. Pricing for the Ceed Ultimate Edition begins at €27,390 for the 1.0 T-GDI manual transmission model and €29,390 for the automatic DCT variant. The station wagon version is priced at €1,000 more for each respective model.

The process of introducing new models at a factory begins with the production of near-series vehicles – a critical step in preparing for mass production in Debrecen. These test vehicles go through every step of the production process. This means that all logistics processes, production equipment, and the tasks performed by factory workers must operate smoothly from the get-go. The procedures are as intricate as they are during actual mass production. Even though the number of parts may still be small, they must be provided within the respective logistics processes.

Every day, supplies and auto parts are delivered to the Debrecen plant. Test vehicles are consistently produced. Each component and aspect of the manufacturing process is meticulously examined. The Jaguar brand as we've come to know it is no more. Yesterday's reveal of a new emblem and a preview of its future direction has sparked intense debates across the globe, to put it mildly. The British company is embarking on a new journey, leaving behind the internal combustion engine, with ambitions to compete in the high-end electric vehicle market. Prefer something more old-school? Then this vehicle might just catch your interest.
Meet the TWR Supercat, a stunningly styled Jaguar XJS-Restomod featuring a carbon fiber body, designed by Khyzyl Saleem. The company name, which might ring a bell for many, represents an engineering firm that emerged in 2020 as an independent division of the iconic Tom Walkinshaw Racing establishment.
The team in charge is not strictly limited to working on Jaguars or Restomods, but for their inaugural project, they've opted to rejuvenate the esteemed grand tourer from Jaguar. Dubbed the Supercat, it has managed to shed nearly 10 percent of the weight compared to the original models from the 70s/80s/90s, now weighing in at 1,605 kilograms. This weight reduction is largely thanks to the generously sculpted carbon fiber body. Customers can also request carbon fiber brakes.

Everywhere you look on this vehicle, your eyes are met with bold design choices – from the sharply angled wheel arches to the assertive aerodynamic features adorning the front and rear, and not forgetting the striking hood. Among its standout features is the side-exiting exhaust system, which isn't just for aesthetics. It also creates space for a flatter underbody and a substantial rear diffuser. The car has a wider stance compared to the original XJS and sits on significantly larger wheels, upgrading from the standard 15-inch wheels to 18 inches at the front and 19 inches at the rear.
However, TWR's efforts don't just stop at the extreme visual makeover; there's a lot going on under the hood as well. The frame is reinforced with carbon fiber, and high-strength stainless steel is used on the subframe. The vehicle is equipped with double wishbone axles featuring active dampers, a limited-slip differential, and traction control. And, of course, to keep up with modern trends, various driving modes are a must. In the case of the Supercat, there are five to choose from.
The real highlight of the event, however, is undoubtedly what's under the highly ventilated hood. Instead of the familiar 6.3-liter engine, a 6.5-liter supercharged V12 now operates, delivering an impressive output. This upsized power unit produces 660 horsepower and 730 Nm of torque. Power is transmitted to the rear wheels through a 6-speed manual transmission (!) equipped with launch control. Originally, the XJS chosen by TWR generated 281 horsepower and 431 Nm of torque and was equipped with a three-speed automatic transmission.
The original layout with seating for four in the donor car has been abandoned. The Supercat has been transformed into a strictly two-seater vehicle equipped with electric seats and an expanded trunk space. The decision to include a fully digital gauge cluster may divide opinions, especially considering whether it aligns with the car's retro interior aesthetic, where traditional analog gauges might have been a more fitting choice. However, the leather seats with carbon fiber shells and the gear shift knob are indeed appealing features. In addition to the digital instruments, there's an additional screen dedicated to the infotainment system that is compatible with both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
In summary, TWR intends to transform 88 Jaguar XJS cars into Supercats. This figure isn't random—it commemorates the year 1988 when Tom Walkinshaw's XJR-9 achieved victory at Le Mans. These vehicles will be available in both right-hand and left-hand drive versions. The company has opened up for orders and it appears that there are only a few cars left. In the UK, the starting price before taxes is set at £225,000, which is approximately €270,000 at current exchange rates. A deposit of about €42,000 is required to secure a spot on the purchase list.

Lucid Motors Issues Recall for 1,539 Air Pure Models Over Potential Loss of Drive Power
Lucid Motors has issued a recall for 1,539 units of the entry-level Air Pure electric sedan, due to a problem that may result in a total loss of the vehicle's driving capabilities.
On Monday, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced that Lucid Air Pure electric vehicles from model years 2024 and 2025 are being recalled due to a concern that the wiring harness in the rear subframe might not be long enough. This issue could put stress on the electrical connection, potentially leading to a power outage in the single motor that powers the rear wheels of these vehicles.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, a situation may arise where drivers experience a loss of vehicle propulsion due to sporadic or disconnected contact with the drive unit, caused by pressure on the wiring harness connector. When this happens, warning alerts may appear on the dashboard. However, vehicle features like power steering, power brakes, the display screens, and indicators will continue to function normally.
After examining several instances of power failures in Air Pure models, Lucid announced a recall, finding that an alteration in documentation resulted in the accidental purchase of rear subframe wiring harnesses that were not of adequate length.

The solution involves swapping out the problematic wiring harnesses for correctly sized ones at no cost at Lucid service locations. Notification letters to vehicle owners are set to be dispatched by Lucid on December 20, 2024. Originally, Lucid launched the Air Pure featuring a two-motor all-wheel-drive system. However, the rear-wheel-drive variant has regularly delivered a longer driving range compared to the Tesla Model S, and it has also been priced lower, especially after the discounts on the 2024 models introduced in February. Lucid still provides other versions of the Air including the Touring, Grand Touring, and the high-end Sapphire model, which are not affected by this recall.

Kia’s 2025 EV9: Navigating the U.S. Tax Credit Terrain Amid Production Adjustments
The Korea Herald states that although Kia is reducing its American production of the EV9 electric SUV, the models produced in the U.S. for the year 2025 will be eligible for a federal electric vehicle tax credit of $3,750.
The reduced credit, equivalent to 50% of the full potential amount, is attributed to the reality that the provider SK On continues to produce batteries for the EV9 within China, a nation the U.S. government has designated as a foreign entity of concern. In the future, any vehicles that use battery materials procured from nations identified as foreign entities of concern will be ineligible for the complete credit value, in accordance with regulations established by the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA).

A representative from Kia informed The Korea Herald that the EV9 cannot take advantage of the complete IRA incentives because of problems with the battery and other aspects such as its cost. Additionally, the IRA regulations set a limit of $80,000 on the price of electric SUVs, although several models of the EV9 are priced below this threshold. The starting price for the entry-level Light Standard Range, including delivery, is $56,225.
Production of the EV9 by Kia commenced at its facility in West Point, Georgia, starting in June, however, the majority of the cars destined for the U.S. market are still imported from South Korea, as stated in the report. The EV9 is also assembled at Hyundai's Metaplant, which is Kia's parent company, located in Georgia as well, but the numbers are not substantial. According to the report, only 21 units were manufactured at this plant during the third quarter, and merely one unit was purchased within the U.S.

Additionally, Hyundai is looking to establish a shared battery factory with LG Energy Solution, also in Georgia.

Additionally, there is a possibility that the tax credit might be abolished by the incoming Trump administration, which is reportedly targeting the incentive for elimination.

Critique: The 2025 GMC Sierra EV Denali excels in versatility
"Tackling that path is a challenge, especially for a hefty full-size pickup that tips the scales at close to 9,000 pounds."
I couldn't quite believe it when I mentioned to my fellow driver that we were being ushered into a 2025 GMC Sierra EV, ready to navigate the tight roads amidst the Redwoods of the Bay Area and along sections of Skyline Boulevard.
I vividly remembered the winding roads; I had previously delighted in navigating the hilly stretches of pavement in a compact Volkswagen GTI. However, I didn't fully appreciate the capabilities of the Sierra EV until now.
Measuring approximately 233 inches in length and 84 inches in width, excluding mirrors, the sizable electric vehicle was surprisingly manageable when navigating tight roads. Its rear-wheel steering allowed for exact placement by turning the back wheels slightly in the opposite direction to the front wheels during low-speed sharp turns. The Sierra EV's dual-motor setup provided immediate power, ensuring we maintained our pace while climbing inclines, and the air suspension system contributed to a stable ride. The effective regenerative braking, available in Normal and High settings, maintained our descent at the appropriate speed on sharp declines.

Heading into the day, I was fully aware of the truck's impressive range claim of 460 miles and its rapid acceleration capabilities. I didn't require any additional evidence of its ability to silently reach 60 mph in an impressive 4.5 seconds—or possibly even quicker. However, GMC had us take a route I wouldn't have picked myself, one that included numerous bends, a bit of towing, some off-road action that showcased the remarkable agility and camera perspectives provided by the rear-wheel steering, as well as a stint using CrabWalk mode, where the rear wheels align with the front. Moreover, we were given the task to quickly pack the Sierra EV with a substantial amount of gear for outdoor activities.
As the day closed, it was clear I had learned a lesson. Unlike its competitors, GMC has not gone for an eccentric design like the Cybertruck, targeted the adventure-seeking demographic like the R1T, or just electrified its best-selling model akin to the F-150 Lightning.
The GMC Sierra EV finds its place alongside the GMC Hummer EV within the GMC family, with the company distinguishing them by labeling the Hummer EV as the "it" truck, while the Sierra EV is dubbed the "do it" truck. From a market standpoint, the Sierra EV stands out as a more notable achievement. For those in search of ultimate cargo flexibility when handling bulky goods, as well as superior towing capacity, payload hauling, and overall utility performance, this is the truck to beat.

The upcoming electric 2025 GMC Sierra is set to impress with its significant driving range, a feature that owes more to its hefty battery options than to outstanding efficiency. It comes with two substantial dual-layer batteries, engineered to connect in series for rapid 800-volt DC charging. The larger Max Range battery at 205 kWh allows for an estimated 460-mile range, while the slightly smaller 170 kWh Extended Range battery provides up to 390 miles. General Motors' estimate for the Max Range is notable as the battery's size places the Sierra EV in a heavier weight class, outside the scope of standard EPA range assessments.
During an extensive drive that covered close to 90 miles, which included a mix of different roads and conditions, the Sierra EV's onboard system indicated an efficiency of 1.9 miles per kilowatt-hour. This implies that, under similar driving circumstances, we could potentially achieve a distance of 390 miles or even more.
The large capacity battery enhances capabilities. With the Extended Range option, the Sierra EV boasts a towing capacity of 10,500 pounds, and with the Max Range option, it can tow 10,000 pounds. Although towing may reduce the distance it can travel by half, this isn't a significant concern in this context.

During a brief test drive while hauling a 5,500-pound trailer, the Sierra EV displayed little to no strain, maintaining an acceleration rate faster than that of a heavily packed minivan. When subjected to two rounds of full-throttle acceleration, it showed an average energy consumption of 1.0 miles per kilowatt-hour on the vehicle’s trip computer, suggesting that it could potentially cover a distance of 200 miles even when pulling a sizable horse trailer or a large boat.
The model I tested offers a maximum range and can produce up to 760 horsepower along with 785 pound-feet of torque, thanks to the two permanent magnet motors engineered and manufactured by GM. Models with an extended range come with almost identical components, with the exception of the battery pack, yet they generate 645 horsepower and the same torque of 785 pound-feet.

The maximum performance figures and the swift 4.5-second 0 to 60 mph sprint capability for the Max variant are exclusive to the Max Power setting. The Sierra EV offers additional driving modes including Normal-Tour, Off-Road, Tow-Haul, and an option for personalized settings. GM has not disclosed the top power output for these alternate modes.
The Sierra EV boasts a unique feature in its 11.0-cubic-foot front trunk, dubbed the eTrunk, which includes a cupholder, drainage system, and is designed to withstand the elements. However, the real highlight in terms of cargo flexibility is the Midgate. This allows for a swift transformation of the rear seating area into an extended part of the truck bed. With the tailgate closed, this creates a lengthy space of 9 feet 1 inch, or an even more spacious area of 10 feet 10 inches when the tailgate is open and the foldable tailgate step is deployed to secure lengthy gear, such as a kayak.
The designers stressed that the Midgate is designed for frequent use, not just occasional. Although it's not resistant to the elements, it's ideal for transporting equipment a short distance to a starting point without the need for specific racks. Plus, you can still keep one of the rear seats up when utilizing it.

For its 2024 release, the Sierra EV is available solely in the premium Denali version, which includes the largest available battery, air suspension, rear-wheel steering, and a suite of amenities that position it as one of the most deluxe options in the large pickup category.
In terms of updates for the year 2025, consumers can expect minor adjustments in pricing, the introduction of a new Extended Range model, and an increase of 20 miles in the maximum range option, thanks to enhancements in the motor efficiency. I had the opportunity to experience the premier Sierra EV Denali model, which offers the maximum range and starts at a price point of $100,495. This figure includes the $2,095 fee for delivery but excludes any extra towing and storage accessories.
The Sierra EV Denali comes equipped with an array of luxurious features including adjustable air suspension, steering for the rear wheels, a vast sunroof, seats in the front that are both heated and cooled, premium leather seats, a steering wheel that warms up, outer seats with heating functionality, a display projected onto the windshield, compatibility with wi-fi hotspots, and a seven-speaker sound system from Bose. It also boasts a wireless charging area ingeniously built into a center console that slides, along with an abundance of USB-C connections and a 120-volt outlet for use inside the cabin. Additionally, it features a 7.2-kw AC power supply that could potentially render the need for a portable generator at campsites or on work sites obsolete.
During my short time testing the Sierra EV, I didn't have the opportunity to recharge it. The vehicle's specifications indicate that the Max Range battery can support up to 350 kW, while the Extended Range battery can handle 300 kW during rapid charging. According to GM, when connected to a 350-kW CCS charger, the Sierra EV can replenish approximately 100 miles of its range in a mere 10 minutes. Previous statements by the company suggest that both battery options can charge from 10% to 80% within roughly 40 minutes. To facilitate reaching these optimal charging speeds, GMC has incorporated a battery warming system that can be activated through the built-in navigation system or by a touch on the screen.

Embracing the electric vehicle lifestyle, the Sierra EV boasts a feature that allows for a 10.2 kw AC power output, offering a possible alternative to carrying a generator. Beginning with the $1,699 PowerShift charger, homeowners can equip their residences with GM's energy solutions, allowing the Sierra EV to serve as a backup power source for the home—this includes the PowerBank home energy storage system.
The GMC Sierra EV Denali distinguishes itself from the Chevrolet Silverado EV mainly in its interior, featuring a 16.8-inch vertical touchscreen, in contrast to the horizontal screen found in the Chevy. This system in the Sierra EV, similar to the one in the Silverado EV and other recent GM electric vehicles, comes equipped with Google's native software, allowing the use of Google-related applications. However, it does not support Apple CarPlay or Android Auto functionalities.
Upcoming 2025 Electric Version of the GMC Sierra,
The Sierra EV comes with GM's Super Cruise technology, which is free for the first three years. This system enables the driver to remove hands from the steering wheel and even perform semi-automated lane shifts over a network of more than 750,000 miles of pre-mapped roads and highways, as long as the driver remains vigilant. The updated Super Cruise now accommodates towing, and during a test with a 5,500-pound trailer, it maintained reliable lane stability and speed regulation through regenerative braking. However, the technology isn't flawless and shouldn't be solely depended upon; for instance, during a drive on US-101 near Palo Alto, the system frequently shut off due to its inability to detect the road's poorly visible and inconsistent lane markings, which were otherwise discernible to us.
GMC has successfully designed its vehicles with ample space for tall passengers both in the front and rear, ensuring a generous amount of overhead space and an excellent outward view. The seating is both luxurious and firm, providing comfort in all areas.
The interior of the vehicle offers a serene experience, thanks to a trio of features: a noise-cancelling feature integrated with the Bose sound system, extra insulation compared to other GMC vehicles, and sound-dampening glass on the sides. Together, these elements create the feeling of being inside a high-end car.
The Denali model maintains a luxurious atmosphere, featuring detailed stitching on the ventilated front seats, intricately designed speaker covers, precision-cut wood accents, and an overall meticulous assembly. It remains to be seen if these quality elements will be consistent in the upcoming, more affordable models.
2025 Model of the GMC Sierra EV in the Denali
GMC is planning to release cost-effective versions of its Sierra EV AT4 and Elevation trucks, with a target set for 2025. However, it remains unclear if these will be launched as 2025 or 2026 models. There's also no word from GM on increasing production at its Lake Orion facility in Michigan, which stopped producing the Bolt EV almost a year prior. Until any expansion in production, the availability of these trucks will be restricted.
It's not hard to imagine a more fully equipped variant of the Sierra EV, possibly with magnetic suspension to smooth out the jostling, roller-coaster sensation experienced during quick acceleration on uneven roads. Maybe these improvements will enhance the platform for the soon-to-be-released Cadillac Escalade IQ.
GM has shattered many preconceived notions, including some that I held, demonstrating their capability to produce an exceptional electric truck. The next step for them is to increase production.
