ByteDance Refutes Claims of Self-Made Chip Plans and Reduced Dependence on Nvidia: A Focus on Compliance and Early-stage Initiatives
ByteDance has refuted claims of its intentions to develop its own chips, potentially reducing dependency on Nvidia. The firm from China also dismissed allegations of its plans to collaborate with TSMC, the globally leading chipmaker, for large-scale production of high-tech semiconductors.
The company based in Beijing, also responsible for running Douyin, TikTok's Chinese equivalent, stated that its ventures in the semiconductor sector are still in their infancy. They are primarily concentrating on cost efficiency in areas such as recommendations, advertising, and other business aspects, according to local news reports, which quoted a ByteDance statement written in Chinese.
ByteDance confirmed that all its chip initiatives adhere to the necessary trade control rules.
The report suggests that the goal of these efforts is to decrease ByteDance's reliance on Nvidia as a response to the US export regulations.
