Breathing Battles and Physical Struggles: Alex Rins and Fabio Di Giannantonio Confront Challenges in Indonesian MotoGP Practice
Alex Rins confesses to having difficulty breathing during MotoGP practice in Indonesia. The Yamaha rider is currently recuperating from bronchitis.
Yamaha rider Alex Rins revealed that he occasionally struggled to breathe during Friday's practice session for the MotoGP Indonesian Grand Prix.
The Spanish racer had to sit out the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix last weekend due to a bout of bronchitis, resulting in him participating in only one session at Misano before pulling out.
He had recuperated sufficiently to participate in the Friday practice session at Mandalika, where he secured the 13th position, missing a Q2 spot by less than two-tenths of a second.
However, Rins acknowledges that the high temperatures occasionally made it difficult for him to breathe normally.
He expressed his excitement to the press, including Crash.net, saying that it felt incredible to be back on his Yamaha.
"Being at the track without being able to ride is really tough. And without a doubt, the current conditions make it even harder. This is accurate."
"The conditions were extremely hot and challenging, but we kept pushing until the very end to try to qualify for Q2. I believe there were two corners where I struggled to perform correctly."
"I have to figure out how to do it. I'll definitely analyze Fabio [Quartararo]'s data: the first corner, as well as corners 10 and 11."
"Absolutely, continue putting in the effort and pushing forward. Today, we conducted a significant test with the new chassis. It's performing fairly well, and I'm pretty pleased with the enhancements."
"I'm physically well. There are definitely moments when it's a bit tough to breathe due to recent bronchitis, but I'm able to handle it effectively."
Di Giannantonio's health issues are affecting his mood
Fabio Di Giannantonio, a rider for VR46 Ducati, admitted feeling "a bit down" about his physical state following Friday's practice session.
Di Giannantonio might need surgery soon to address the dislocated left shoulder he sustained at the Austrian GP. He recently disclosed that there's an 80% chance of it dislocating again.
Despite enduring physical discomfort during practice in Indonesia, he managed to push through and qualify for Q2, even though he had a minor fall towards the end.
"This is the first occasion since the injury that I'm feeling somewhat frustrated because, physically, I'm experiencing fatigue," he stated.
"I know I have the capacity to push harder and increase my speed, but I end up getting too exhausted to maintain it."
"When my left side begins to weaken, I rely solely on my right arm, but eventually, my right arm also loses strength."
"It's challenging, but aside from that, our speed has been impressive. I'm pleased about that. Today has been a mix of feelings, but overall, I believe we're moving in a positive direction."
Di Giannantonio mentioned that the main problem he's dealing with due to his injury is that it has prevented him from training effectively, causing him to become fatigued more quickly while riding.
"It's been two months now that I haven't been able to train at home the way I'd like," he mentioned.
"I need to practice conserving energy and minimizing shoulder movement."
"So, you're not really preparing adequately for MotoGP. You're more focused on recovery than on actual training."
"Therefore, over an extended timeframe, you are gradually losing your physical shape.
"I'm not in the best physical shape right now, and any slight pain seems to make it worse, even though my shoulder is healing. It's challenging, but we're not quitting."
