Blame Game in Baku: Tsunoda and Stroll Clash Sparks Heated Debate at Azerbaijan GP

Published

on

Yuki Tsunoda and Lance Stroll are at odds over who is responsible for their collision at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix. Each driver has a different perspective on the incident.

Yuki Tsunoda has criticized Lance Stroll for what he described as an "unnecessary" maneuver during the first lap of the F1 Azerbaijan Grand Prix.

On the first lap of Sunday's race in Baku, there was a collision between Tsunoda and Stroll.

Stroll made a late move on Tsunoda, leading to slight contact.

The crash caused damage to the side of Tsunoda’s race car, leading to an early retirement after he fell behind in the race.

The situation was much the same for Stroll, who ended up with a flat tire.

Looking back at the event, Tsunoda doubts the purpose of Stroll's aggressive move, saying, "I don't know what he was trying to achieve."

"Experiencing this in two consecutive races is extremely frustrating," Tsunoda remarked following the event. "The race was very brief, and I missed the chance to earn points. While it would have been challenging, anything can happen in these street races."

"Starting from the 12th position is far from ideal, as it increases the chances of sustaining damage. We need to improve slightly to qualify within the top 10 for a better starting position. Regarding the incident on the track, his [Stroll's] maneuver seemed unnecessary."

"He went for it with a no-holds-barred attitude. I'm not certain what he stood to gain, but I wasn't about to let him have it easily. Unfortunately, it wasn't the ideal way to finish my race, but we'll bounce back in Singapore."

Stroll regretted the tire puncture he experienced on the first lap and later had to retire in the final laps because of a problem with his brake pedal.

Fernando Alonso managed to clinch sixth place, indicating that the Aston Martin showed promising speed in Azerbaijan.

"My race was essentially finished on the first lap due to a collision with [Yuki] Tsunoda," Stroll stated. "I attempted to overtake on the inside – not sure if he noticed me or not – but he blocked the way, causing me to pit for a tire puncture. We're all pushing hard during the initial lap, and incidents like this can occur, but it put us at a disadvantage for the remainder of the race.

"With nine laps remaining, I began noticing a problem with the brake pedal, which progressively deteriorated each lap. This track isn't one where you can afford to take risks, and since we weren't in contention for points, it was logical to retire the car. It's been a tough weekend, but I'm excited about the upcoming race in Singapore."
