**”Bagnaia Battles Déjà Vu: World Champion Overcomes Tough Start in Indonesian MotoGP Practice”**
Francesco Bagnaia experienced a "nightmarish flashback" during the MotoGP practice session in Indonesia. The reigning world champion provided an account of his challenging Friday at the Mandalika circuit.
MotoGP world champion Francesco Bagnaia mentioned that a challenging Friday at the Mandalika circuit made him feel like he was "reliving the nightmare" of the previous year's Indonesian Grand Prix.
Bagnaia successfully secured a spot in Q2 for the qualifying session on Saturday morning in Indonesia, though he was at risk of experiencing a repeat of the 2023 events in Indonesia.
In the previous year, Bagnaia couldn't advance beyond Q1, which temporarily let Jorge Martin lead the championship following the sprint. However, Bagnaia recovered from a 13th place start to ultimately secure victory in the grand prix.
Discussing his challenges, Bagnaia mentions that he "didn't feel comfortable" navigating the right-hand turns on the medium tire but noticed a significant enhancement immediately after switching to the soft rear tire for his time trial.
"I felt like I was going through last year's nightmare all over again," he expressed.
“Fortunately, once we installed the soft rear tire, everything began functioning properly again."
“It’s unfortunate that we wasted some time during the initial part of the session before the time attack.”
“We experimented with different approaches, but I felt uncomfortable on the right side and had a hard time exerting force.
"Everything began functioning properly once we switched to the soft rear tire."
"We're extremely pleased with this outcome. We were able to significantly reduce our lap times and secure a position in the top five."
“I'm glad about this result, but we need to figure out what went on because it's unusual that simply switching from medium to soft tires improved our lap time so significantly.
"However, I believe this should provide significant relief following the events of the day."
Ducati's Enea Bastianini set a new lap record and was the quickest on Friday in Indonesia, closely followed by his teammate Martin.
Their extended pace on the medium tire was impressive, but Bagnaia thinks he is nearer to their performance than his Friday times indicate.
He mentioned that he feels positive about tomorrow, as they plan to use the worn soft tires in the morning and switch to the soft tires for the sprint.
"In the extended race, I observed Enea and Martin performing exceptionally well with their lap times. Additionally, Frankie Morbidelli impressed me this morning."
"I believe we have more in common with them than what occurred today, so I prefer not to dwell too much on today's events."
