Apple’s iPhone 16 Faces Discounted Sales in China Amid AI Delay and Rising Huawei Competition
Apple's iPhone 16 is being sold at a reduced price in China due to a delay in AI features which has lessened the demand. Online retailers are slashing prices by as much as 11% on Apple's newest phones, as Huawei becomes the talk of the town in the market.
Pinduoduo, a leading e-commerce platform owned by PDD Holdings in the country, has commenced sales for the iPhone 16 Plus with a storage capacity of 512 gigabytes. The phone is being offered at a price of 8,999 yuan (US$1,268), which is 10% less than the original cost of 9,999 yuan. The 128GB version of the iPhone 16 is available for purchase at an even more reduced price with an 11% discount.
Pinduoduo and Alibaba Group Holding's Taobao marketplace are both offering a 4% discount on the 256GB model of the premium iPhone 16 Pro Max, reducing the price by 400 yuan to 9,599 yuan. Additionally, Alibaba's Tmall shopping platform allows customers to purchase a new Apple phone in 24 interest-free payments.
