Alex Albon Disqualified from Dutch GP Qualifying: Floor Body Irregularity Costs Williams Driver Eighth Spot on Grid
Alex Albon has been removed from the Dutch Grand Prix qualifying session due to an issue with the floor of his car.
Alex Albon has been disqualified from the Dutch Grand Prix qualifying session due to an anomaly the FIA discovered with the floor structure of his Williams F1 vehicle.
Albon impressed during the Dutch Grand Prix qualifying, earning the eighth spot on the starting grid.
The only Williams driver participating was the Thai driver, as Logan Sargeant had a significant crash during the third practice session.
Using the latest enhancements from Williams, Albon demonstrated impressive speed, securing a spot in the top 10 and qualifying in eighth place.
Despite his strong starting position, concerns arose when the FIA revealed that "the floor body exceeded the dimensions specified in the technical regulations."
Following the referral of the issue to the stewards, Albon was later removed from the final standings.
The officials observed that the floor structure of Car 23 exceeded the dimensional limits specified in Article 3.5.1 a) of the FIA Formula One Technical Regulations.
The team acknowledged the accuracy of the FIA's measuring system and the car's measurement but claimed that their own measurements showed different outcomes.
"The officials conclude that the measurement taken using the FIA system in Parc Ferme is the valid one and that all regulatory procedures have been adhered to. As a result, the usual penalty for this type of violation is enforced."
