Adrian Newey’s F1 Future: Snubbing Ferrari for British Soil as Aston Martin and McLaren Lead the Chase
Adrian Newey Likely to Reject Ferrari in Favor of Aston Martin or McLaren Advancement?
Reports suggest it is becoming more obvious that Adrian Newey will not be joining Ferrari after leaving Red Bull.
Reports indicate that Adrian Newey is expected to reject a high-profile move to Ferrari in favor of a potential role with either Aston Martin or McLaren in F1.
The iconic Formula 1 engineer has "parted ways with the Scuderia" and is "considering proposals from British teams" as he "wishes to remain in the UK," as reported by Motorsport Italy.
According to a report from Motorsport Italy, the journey towards Maranello for Ferrari has turned into an increasingly difficult challenge. It further highlights that Aston Martin and McLaren have surged ahead in the pursuit of acquiring Newey, with Aston Martin currently having the upper hand.
The pursuit of Newey by Aston Martin, set to depart from Red Bull by the beginning of 2025, is a long-standing one. It is rumored that Lawrence Stroll made an attractive salary proposal to Newey back in March, and according to Autosport, the British team intensified their efforts to recruit the 65-year-old by arranging a confidential tour of their cutting-edge facility in Silverstone.
There have been strong rumors about Newey potentially joining Ferrari and possibly collaborating with seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton. However, according to Motorsport Italy, he is now considering a decision between Aston Martin and McLaren, a team he was previously associated with from 1997 to 2005.
According to the Italian media, after initial discussions with Newey, Ferrari has decided against engaging in a financial competition for his expertise. They mention that Newey is anticipated to make his final decision by the end of September.
This connects to remarks Newey shared during a discussion with Sky Sports.
When questioned about the timeline for deciding on his future, specifically if it would be by fall or winter, Newey responded, "Yes, that's definitely the goal. I should have reached a decision by that time."
During the British Grand Prix last weekend, Jeremy Clarkson, who used to study with Newey, accidentally revealed while on the grid that he was in the process of looking for a new home in Oxfordshire, as opposed to Italy.
"Are you looking for a scoop? Clarkson revealed to a Viaplay TV host on the Silverstone grid that Adrian Newey is actually searching for a home in Oxfordshire, not Maranello."
