Adrian Newey’s Arrival at Aston Martin Set to Attract F1 Stars Like Max Verstappen, Says Martin Brundle
Adrian Newey's presence expected to draw in 'elite drivers' such as Max Verstappen
"Top-tier drivers will be eager to join. They'll want to be involved in that."
Esteemed Formula 1 commentator Martin Brundle thinks it’s only a matter of time before Adrian Newey’s recruitment will draw top talents like Max Verstappen to Aston Martin.
On Tuesday, it was revealed that Newey has been appointed as the new technical managing partner at Aston Martin, where he will lead their design team.
Newey is set to officially become part of Aston Martin in March 2025, aiming to address the new technical regulations scheduled for introduction the subsequent year.
The roster of drivers for Aston Martin's Formula 1 team is confirmed for the coming years, as Fernando Alonso has a contract that lasts through to the end of 2026.
Lance Stroll will remain a driver for the team for as long as both he and his father, Lawrence Stroll, who owns the team, desire.
It comes as no shock that Newey's entry has sparked discussions about Verstappen possibly becoming a member later on.
Max Verstappen's connection with Adrian Newey, along with Honda, set to supply engines for Aston Martin starting in 2026, make it feasible if the team based in Silverstone turns into a competitive race-winning team.
During an interview on Sky Sports News, Brundle was questioned about whether Verstappen is the upcoming target for Stroll.
"Exactly, that's the deal with a talent like Newey," Brundle remarked. "He will draw in the top performers and elite drivers. They'll all want to join his team."
“There isn’t a set salary for Formula 1 drivers, Premier League football players, or individuals like Adrian Newey. Your value is determined by what someone is willing to pay. Lawrence Stroll amassed his fortune by being prudent with his finances.”
He is aware of his expenditures. This will aid in drawing in additional talent, concentrating efforts, and appealing to sponsors and investors for the team.
In essence, it might turn out to be a good deal if the car performs with high speed. Ultimately, what truly matters is the timing recorded by the stopwatch.
"Everything else is mere background buzz."
Aston Martin holds the fifth position in the 2024 Formula 1 Constructors' Championship.
