Adrian Newey Defends £30 Million Salary Amid Aston Martin Move: ‘I Don’t Need to Work, But I Still Love This Job
Adrian Newey questioned about £30 million salary
"I’m lucky enough to be in a position where I don’t have to work"
Adrian Newey faced questions regarding the allegedly sky-high salary he received after signing with Aston Martin.
The Formula 1 team from Silverstone has enthusiastically revealed that the brilliant car designer Newey will be part of their team for the upcoming phase of his professional journey.
Lawrence Stroll revealed that he will be acquiring shares in the Aston Martin F1 team.
Moreover, his compensation package will amount to £30 million, which includes possible bonuses, according to the BBC.
The BBC directly questioned Newey about the significant worth he adds to Aston Martin that justifies such an enormous payment.
He responded, "You should probably ask Lawrence…
"I'm not sure. I just feel like myself. I'm lucky enough to be in a situation where I don't have to work anymore."
“I could easily stop working and maintain a comfortable lifestyle. However, I still enjoy the work I do.”
Newey’s choice to become a part of Aston Martin was not a foregone conclusion.
"When I chose to leave Red Bull at the end of April, I honestly had no plans for what would come next," he remarked.
"Would you choose to retire and embark on a global sailing adventure? Would you prefer to pursue an entirely new path? Or would you decide to remain in Formula 1?"
My wife Mandy and I chose to postpone making a decision for some time in order to fully process the situation.
"In June, I reflected on my long-standing dream of becoming a motor racing designer, a passion I've had since I was about 10 or 12 years old. I've been fortunate to turn that dream into reality and still find great joy in my work. The drive to enhance the car's speed is what motivates me each day."
Newey was questioned about whether he lost some enthusiasm towards the end of his time with Red Bull.
"It's simple to get a little stagnant," he mentioned.
"In 2005, while with McLaren, I felt like I was stagnating and needed a fresh challenge."
"I began experiencing some of that during the latter half of last year and continuing into this year."
"There were several reasons why I decided to stay with Red Bull, and that was definitely one of them."
Newey smiled brightly as he recounted the events that took place upon his arrival at Aston Martin's headquarters for his introduction.
"The welcome I received from all the staff when I stepped out to speak at the factory was a 'pinch me' moment," he stated.
"I never really consider that aspect. My main focus is on increasing the car's speed."
"I make an effort to shield myself from external media influences."
