The 2025 model of the Mercedes-Benz EQE, available as an electric SUV, is priced at $79,050. For this model year, the EQE maintains its availability in both the sedan and SUV versions, with the SUV variant undergoing minimal updates.

The latest updates include the addition of standard rear-seat headrest pillows, an inter-front seat airbag, and the ability to use a digital key. Additionally, many versions now offer the option of front-seat headrest cushions and doors that close gently. Furthermore, a fresh paint option, Manufaktur Moonlight White Metallic, has been introduced to the color selection.

Mercedes-Benz is rolling out its 2025 EQE SUV lineup with several variations: the single-motor EQE 350+, the dual-motor EQE 350 4Matic and EQE 500 4Matic, along with a high-performance AMG EQE version. The EQE 350+ generates 288 horsepower and 417 pound-feet of torque, and the EQE 350 4Matic offers an elevated torque of 564 pound-feet.

The EQE 500 4Matic elevates its dual-motor setup, boasting a total of 536 horsepower and 633 pound-feet of torque. In comparison, the AMG EQE takes performance to new heights with 677 horsepower and 738 pound-feet of torque, achieving a sprint from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.4 seconds. This is a significant improvement over the EQE 500 4Matic's 4.6-second run, the EQE 350 4Matic's 6.2 seconds, and the EQE 350+'s 6.3-second timeframe.

The upcoming 2025 Mercedes-Benz EQE sedan is set to get an upgraded battery pack that should increase its driving distance. However, it seems the EQE SUV will continue to use its current 108-kwh battery. The projected EPA range is anticipated to stay at 307 miles for the EQE 350+ with one motor, 282 miles for the all-wheel-drive EQE 500 4Matic, 265 miles for the all-wheel-drive EQE 350 4Matic, and 235 miles for the high-performance AMG EQE SUV.

Mercedes has its sights set on integrating the Tesla NACS connection in its upcoming vehicles. However, the current EQE SUV still features the CCS connection for charging. It supports rapid charging with a peak capacity of 170 kw, enabling a battery boost from 10% to 80% in just 32 minutes. Additionally, the SUV comes equipped with a 9.6-kw internal charger that can completely replenish the battery in 9.5 hours when plugged into a 240-volt outlet.

Debuting in the 2023 lineup, the EQE SUV represents the intermediate option within Mercedes' lineup of electric crossovers. Positioned between the EQB, which is the electric version of the GLB-Class, and the larger, 3-row EQS SUV, the EQE SUV saw enhancements to its regenerative braking system in the 2024 model year, a feature it has in common with both the EQE sedan and EQS variants.

The starting cost for the EQE 350+ and its all-wheel-drive counterpart, the EQE 350 4Matic, is set at $79,050, which includes a $1,150 charge for delivery. This figure remains the same as it was for the previous year's model. The EQE SUV, which is assembled in Alabama, was previously eligible for the federal electric vehicle tax incentive due to its price point. However, it has lost this eligibility in 2024 due to new regulations regarding the sourcing of battery materials. The higher-end models, the EQE 500 4Matic and the performance-focused AMG EQE, are on the market for $90,650 and $110,450, respectively.

While heading home, you'll notice Chinese individuals waving red flags on the sidewalks, navy soldiers riding Harley-Davidson bikes, and President Xi Jinping's hefty Hongqi sedan silently making its way around the corner.

Imagine taking a casual morning walk and stumbling upon the official vehicles of the planet's most powerful leaders! This was the scene recently in Brazil during the G20 Summit, where heads of state and government from the world's top 20 economies gathered. For two days, November 18th and 19th, Rio transformed into the global epicenter.

Car enthusiasts were eagerly anticipating which vehicles would be selected to shuttle the presidents and prime ministers back and forth between the hotels and the Museum of Modern Art in Flamengo Park, where the most significant meetings of the event were taking place.

Then, a brief halt on Copacabana Avenue to watch the passing delegations. However, the display turned out to be somewhat underwhelming: the majority of the heads of state were traveling in regular models manufactured in Brazil and provided by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Neither Renault nor Peugeot – Macron's Faith in the Jeep Commander

The President of France, Emmanuel Macron, was seen traveling in a black Jeep Commander Limited. It was assumed he would be in his latest Renault Rafale or DS7. Even an old Citroën C6 (from the years 2005 to 2012) could have stirred a sense of patriotism with "La Marseillaise."

Instead of traveling in a luxurious car such as a Mercedes S 680, BMW 7 series, or Audi A8, Chancellor Olaf Scholz was seen driving through Rio in a plain Mitsubishi Outlander from Catalão (Goiás), a model whose production has already ceased. Clearly, both Macron and Scholz opted out of the expense of transporting their official state vehicles to Brazil at the taxpayer's cost.

Throughout their stay in Rio, the Outlander became the vehicle of choice for world leaders. It served as the mode of transport for Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen. Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni was also seen using an Outlander for her movements around the G20 host city. This raised the question – what happened to her Alfa Romeo Giulia?

The Prime Minister of Japan, Shigeru Ishiba, who typically travels in a massive Toyota Century back in Tokyo, arrived in a Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross. Mr. Ishiba would have undoubtedly enjoyed a more comfortable ride in the backseat of a V8-engine Toyota Land Cruiser, which is part of his official fleet. This Land Cruiser, which was manufactured in 2020, is owned by the Japanese consulate in Rio.

The Prime Minister of Canada, Justin Trudeau, similarly to Macron, made use of a Commander Limited vehicle. Another Jeep, specifically a Compass model, was also part of the convoy. Gustavo Petro, the President of Colombia, was transported in the Compass. Although Colombia is not a member of the G20, the country received an invitation to attend the summit.

Argentine President Javier Milei arrived in a Toyota Corolla manufactured in Brazil, reminiscent of his fellow countryman Pope Francis's penchant for modest vehicles. Indeed, there was an unprecedented sight of numerous black Corollas, with thousands utilized either as escort vehicles or to transport the entourage alongside federal police officers. Toyota alone provided a loan of 50 Corolla sedans or crossovers specifically for the occasion.

Let's shift our focus from regular cars and discuss the most eye-catching vehicles at the summit. Parked outside the Hilton, where Joe Biden was staying, was a white Mercedes-Maybach S 680, at the service of Prabowo Subianto, Indonesia's recently appointed president. Similarly, the Turkish President Recep Erdogan made use of a Mercedes-Maybach during his visit.

The Presidential Limousine

The American President's limousine has become a sight that draws the attention of sightseers. Officially designated as Cadillac One, Secret Service personnel have dubbed it "Stagecoach". Its most popular moniker, however, is "The Beast". This vehicle isn't just a single limousine; it's a pair of identical cars, right down to their license plates (Washington 800-002) and the Brazilian and American flags adorning the front fenders. The reason for this duplication is strategic: it's meant to confound any potential assailants as to which "Beast" the President is actually riding in.

When viewed up close, the limousines of the US Presidents don't appear as bulky as we had imagined. With a bit of appreciation, one can even notice a certain aesthetic balance in their designs. The latest model was commissioned from General Motors in 2014, during the Obama administration, and completed in 2018, in the midst of Trump's initial term. Each of these vehicles is estimated to have a cost ranging from 1 to 1.5 million dollars.

The styling takes cues from the Cadillac CT6, a full-size luxury sedan produced from 2016 to 2020. The headlights are borrowed from the fourth-generation Cadillac Escalade, while the grille design is influenced by the Cadillac Escala Concept Car unveiled in 2016.

Beneath the guise of this luxury vehicle lies the framework of a Chevrolet Kodiak/GMC TopKick truck chassis (take note of the wheel size and the Goodyear Regional RHS II tires). Of course, there are methods to keep them operational even when they're deflated.

For security reasons, the specific technical specifications of the Cadillac One are kept confidential. However, it's speculated that the vehicle is equipped with a 6.6-liter Duramax V8 turbo diesel engine. From the sounds we've been able to pick up in close proximity, it appears to actually have a gasoline engine, most likely a V8.

The Beast is estimated to weigh 9.1 tons. Its armor is fortified with aluminum, ceramic, and steel. The doors are as thick as a vault's. The glass measures 13 centimeters in thickness, yet the windows are small and recessed deep within the frame. Despite this, there is no tinting film used, and depending on the vehicle's speed, one might catch a glimpse of the President seated in the back.

The car is expected to be outfitted with features reminiscent of James Bond's Aston Martin, including gadgets for creating a smokescreen and dispensing oil to deter pursuers, as well as electrified exterior door handles. Furthermore, the cabin is designed to be impervious to chemical warfare assaults.

When they are retired from service, the presidential limousines are demolished under the watchful eye of the Secret Service. Additionally, there is a six-door Ford F-350 Super Duty known as the Roadrunner, which is distinguished by a dome on its roof.

The structure is a sizable dome-shaped antenna that provides the President and military commanders with the capability to establish a secure satellite communication link. Whenever the President travels, all of these vehicles are transported aboard a C-17 Globemaster III cargo aircraft.

The Chinese motorcade may lack the cinematic allure of vehicles, but it boasts the sleek Hongqi N701 sedan, which appears more refined than its American counterpart. It's so impressive that it even earned praise from Joe Biden when Xi Jinping visited San Francisco.

"Wow, what a magnificent vehicle," exclaimed Biden, as he had the opportunity to peek inside the cabin adorned with blue and red accents.

The brand known as Hongqi, which translates to "Red Flag" in Mandarin and is pronounced "Hon-chi," has been manufacturing vehicles for China's government leaders since 1958, the era of Mao Zedong. It is part of the state-owned FAW Group (First Automotive Works), which stands as the country's oldest automaker. In the past, this brand also produced the Audi 100 C3 under license, catering to the mid-level party officials.

The N701, the latest model of the presidential limousine, was introduced in 2022. It is typically paired with an identical model during parades. Visually, it bears resemblance to the luxury sedan Hongqi H9, though it has been modified with extended B and C pillars and a raised roof to maintain a proportional design. The hood, adorned with a stylized red flag, is lengthy, while the trunk is comparatively short. The vehicle spans roughly six meters in length. As expected, it is heavily armored, although not quite to the extent of the United States President's vehicle.

Instead of the initially planned V12 engine, the N701 is equipped with a 3-liter V6 engine (sourced from the Hongqi H9 sedan) that pairs with an electric motor to achieve a combined output of 468 horsepower. Hongqi has committed to supplying 50 of these sedans to the Chinese government over a span of ten years.

The Cake Tram

To complete the (not so) sacred trio of presidential limousines, all that was missing was Vladimir Putin's Aurus Senat. However, the President stayed back in Moscow to dodge conflicts with other national leaders (and a potential arrest by the International Criminal Court in The Hague). Representing him was Sergey Lavrov, the Russian Foreign Minister, who arrived in a BMW X5.

Norway's Prime Minister, Jonas Gahr Støre, approached things differently. On the Sunday leading up to the G20 summit's inauguration, he opted out of using his official car, instead traveling by tram to Santa Teresa. There, he engaged in frying cod cakes at a local pub, actively promoting Norway's most renowned culinary delight. Amidst bites, sips of Caipirinha, and the rhythm of Samba, Støre was undoubtedly the most jubilant among the assembled world leaders in Rio, all without the need for a luxury vehicle.

The engine lineup includes mild-hybrid variants offering 100 and 136 horsepower, complemented by electric models with 136 horsepower using a 50-kWh battery and 156 horsepower with a 54-kWh battery. The C4 can travel up to 415 kilometers on a single charge, while the C4 X has a slightly longer range of 425 kilometers, and they both support fast charging up to 100 kW. Additionally, from 2025, there will be an option for V2L technology that allows the vehicle to supply power to external devices, which will be available through a special accessory.

The latest C5 Aircross, unveiled as a concept at the Paris Motor Show, is set to be built on Stellantis Group's STLA Medium platform, aiming to rival the likes of the VW Tiguan and Hyundai Tucson. It is expected to follow the prototype's design closely. This SUV is anticipated to be larger than the existing model, stretching to a length of 4.65 meters.

The range of engines will be extensive, including mild-hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and for the first time, a fully electric option. This electric model is set to offer a power output of up to 320 horsepower and a range exceeding 500 kilometers, sharing technology with the Peugeot E-3008 and the Opel Grandland.

The car manufacturer Lotus, with Chinese and British roots, has abandoned its plans to fully transition to electric vehicles by 2028. Instead, they are shifting their focus towards developing hybrid models and electric vehicles that come with a range extender. Recently, with the heavy and purely electric releases of the Eletre SUV and the Emeya sedan, Lotus has made a significant departure from its heritage of uncompromisingly lightweight sports cars. Back in 2021, it was confirmed that the Emira sports car would be the final model with a combustion engine produced by the brand, now under the leadership of the Chinese company Geely.

Now, as with numerous other car manufacturers, there's a reversal in strategy, or at least a partial one. The objective to achieve a fully electric lineup by 2028 has been scrapped. Instead, the company aims to incorporate hybrid options for future models.

The adjustment in plans can likely be attributed to the hesitation of luxury car buyers to purchase electric vehicles, even in typically strong markets such as China. At the Guangzou Motor Show, Lotus CEO Feng Qingfeng informed journalists that the company is working on creating a "Super Hybrid" technology. This innovation aims to combine an enhanced combustion engine with the ability to charge quickly. Additionally, Autocar reports that this could potentially offer a total driving range of around 1,100 kilometers.

At Lotus, Feng told the Wall Street Journal that they consistently select the optimal propulsion technology, whether it's solely gasoline, purely electric, a hybrid, or a range-extended electric vehicle.

This marks a significant shift from Lotus's initial stance. Initially, they were against the use of plug-in hybrids, citing a compromised driving experience, especially when the battery runs out. However, according to Feng, the manufacturer intends to address this issue by introducing a 900-volt system that should enable extremely rapid battery charging, quicker than if one were to replace it.

It remains uncertain which models Lotus plans to equip with its latest hybrid technology. Updated iterations of the Eletre and Emeya might benefit from the added versatility and potentially attract a more diverse customer base. The introduction of the new gear is unlikely to reduce the weight, although neither vehicle has been particularly light up to this point.

Those yearning for a new Lotus that embodies a more classic design paired with hybrid technology might want to temper their expectations. It appears that almost every indicator suggests this powertrain is intended to enhance the performance of the manufacturer's sizable four-door vehicles, rather than to preserve the existence of lightweight sports cars. On the bright side, at least the Emira will continue to be available for a few more years.

However, VW plans to offer the SUV exclusively in a two-row setup moving forward. Gone are the days when our European Allspace version was the standard Tiguan there.

However, the latest US version of the Tiguan incorporates certain features from the Tayron. This is particularly noticeable in the design of the bumpers, as well as the chrome strip that extends along the roof towards the rear window. Volkswagen of North America has yet to provide specifics on the dimensions, but the European Tiguan measures 4.54 meters in length.

The US version of the Tiguan does not include the highly demanded plug-in hybrid option available in other markets. Instead, it comes equipped with a 2.0-liter EA888 turbocharged gasoline engine delivering 204 horsepower. However, unlike some regions, the US model pairs this engine with an 8-speed automatic transmission rather than a 7-speed DSG.

The 2025 Tiguan model boasts increased power and has shed approximately 75 kilograms compared to its second-generation predecessor. This weight reduction is attributed by the manufacturer to the incorporation of aluminum in both the suspension and the body structure.

The 2025 Tiguan is built on the updated MQB-Evo platform, replacing the older MQB-Classic platform used in the previous model. It features a more compact rear overhang yet is overall larger than its predecessor. Standard models come with 17-inch wheels, with the option to upgrade to 19 or 20 inches.

Volkswagen has incorporated a standard 10.25-inch digital dashboard into the latest Tiguan model. This feature is positioned adjacent to the standard 12.9-inch entertainment screen or the optional 15.0-inch screen on the dashboard. Additionally, the vehicle comes with a standard Climatronic two-zone automatic climate control, with an optional upgrade to a three-zone climate control system available.

A physical volume control is located between the seats, accompanied by a screen that passengers can tap to toggle between driving modes or access the newly introduced Atmospheres feature, which coordinates the ambient lighting with the audio system. Additionally, VW has expanded the storage space in the center console to 7.6 liters.

The audio setup has the option to be enhanced with an upgraded 12-speaker Harmon Kardon system. VW has upgraded the standard wireless charging feature, boosting its power from 5 to 15 watts and incorporating a cooling system. Moreover, it includes a money clip-style holder that secures the phone tightly to the charging pad.

The Tiguan also comes equipped with four extra airbags, bringing the total count to ten. VW's IQ.Drive package is included as standard in this SUV, featuring technologies like forward collision warning and adaptive cruise control. There's an option to add a head-up display, whereas adaptive front lighting is a standard feature.

Volkswagen has not yet disclosed the pricing for the new model. Historically, the starting price for the Tiguan in the United States has been $30,305, which is approximately 28,700 Euros. The Tiguan holds the title of Volkswagen's top-selling model in the U.S., with its sales climbing by 19% this year.

VinFast VF 9 Electric SUV Begins U.S. Deliveries: A New Contender in the EV Market

Monday saw the commencement of deliveries for Vinfast's VF 9 electric SUV, featuring three rows, with a small batch reaching their new owners in the U.S.

At its LA base, the firm organized a modest gathering where it distributed the initial batch of nine cars to their respective buyers. Beyond this symbolic assembly, the rollout of vehicles to customers who pre-booked is in progress throughout Vinfast's retail framework, which includes 36 dealer locations and 15 outlets owned by the company in California, as communicated to Green Car Reports by Vinfast's representative, Jeff Holland.

The VF 9 received its EPA certification and was greenlit for sales in the United States in 2023, ahead of the increased distribution of the smaller VF 8 model. The EPA's assessment of the vehicle's range remains unchanged at 330 miles for the standard Eco variant and 291 miles for the higher-end Plus model. However, the initial prices quoted by Vinfast in 2023 have since been reduced, making the VF 9 more competitively priced against the Kia EV9, with the added benefit of a slightly longer driving range.

In 2022, Vinfast abandoned its distinct approach of a battery lease program, subsequently increasing the entry-level cost to $83,000 for their Eco version and $91,000 for the Plus variant. Currently, the company has set a new starting price at $69,800 for the Eco and $73,800 for the Plus models. Additionally, Vinfast is extending a promotional deal to the first 100 buyers, offering a lease on the Plus model for $529 monthly with a $2,000 initial payment, claiming this equates to a saving of $3,500. The first batch of vehicles to be delivered will be the Plus model, with the Eco model's delivery scheduled for "later this year," as per Vinfast's statement.

The VF 9 features a two-motor AWD system with a power capability of 402 horsepower and a torque of 457 pound-feet, enabling the Eco model to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in an estimated time of 6.6 seconds (with the Plus model trailing by just 0.1 second). The manufacturer asserts that the vehicle's 123-kWh battery can be powered up from 10% to 70% within a span of 35 minutes.

Vinfast's initial foray into the American market has encountered some difficulties. A test drive of the VF 8 model the previous year raised concerns about its preparedness for consumers. Despite expanding its sales network by including franchise dealerships along with its own retail outlets, the firm was not meeting its sales goals earlier this year. Furthermore, in July, Vinfast postponed the opening of its anticipated factory in North Carolina, pushing the date back to 2028 from the initially projected 2025.

Mini has decided to postpone the introduction of the revamped electric Cooper hatchback and the brand new Aceman electric city car to the American market, though it hasn't ruled out the possibility of them being sold in the U.S. in the future.

MotoringFile initially broke the story, which was subsequently verified by Mini's representative Andrew Cutler in a statement to Green Car Reports. Cutler emphasized that until now, Mini had not reached a conclusion regarding the release of both vehicle models in the U.S. and Canadian markets.

Cutler announced in a statement that the release of these models in the US and Canada has been postponed, and he mentioned that Mini is currently unable to specify when they will be available.

At the 2023 Munich auto show, Mini introduced a revamped electric Mini Cooper hatchback and debuted an all-new electric model of the Countryman crossover. The latest Mini Cooper SE aims to surpass the previous edition's 114-mile range as measured by the EPA's testing standards. In the U.S., Mini continues to offer the latest gasoline-powered Cooper, while also accepting pre-orders for the 2025 Countryman SE ALL4, an electric crossover. The plug-in hybrid version of the Countryman SE is no longer available.

The vehicle is a collaborative effort between Mini and the Chinese company Great Wall Motors, and it's manufactured in China. This manufacturing origin disqualifies it from the U.S. federal EV tax incentive because of the policies concerning foreign entities.

Mini has set a target to fully transition to electric vehicles by 2030, currently offering three electric models including the Cooper, Countryman, and Aceman. However, this shift towards electric may happen at a slower pace in the U.S.

The launch of the Ram 1500 REV, an electric pickup by Stellantis, has been postponed until the first half of 2025, according to Reuters.

Manufacturing was initially planned to commence prior to the conclusion of the current year, aiming for the REV to be a 2025 model, however, it is being delayed to maintain standards of excellence, as stated by Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares during a press conference with Reuters and additional media.

Tavares expressed that they are currently dealing with an exceptionally large volume of work.

Making its debut in 2023, the Ram 1500 REV is set to challenge key players like the Ford F-150 Lightning, Chevrolet Silverado EV, Rivian R1T, and Tesla Cybertruck by offering a maximum range of 500 miles, thanks to its substantial 229-kwh battery. The base model comes equipped with a 168-kwh battery, which Ram predicts will provide a range of up to 350 miles. Additionally, Ram claims that with 350-kw DC fast charging, the vehicle can regain roughly 100 miles of range in approximately 10 minutes.

Ram has announced the inclusion of a two-motor all-wheel-drive system that delivers 654 horsepower and 620 pound-feet of torque. They have guaranteed acceleration from 0 to 60 mph in just 4.4 seconds, the ability to tow up to 14,000 pounds, and a payload capacity of 2,700 pounds.

The new Electrified GV70 will feature an enhanced battery capacity and extended driving range, improvements that are highly anticipated. While specific figures haven't been disclosed by Genesis, the 2025 Electrified GV70 boasted a 236-mile range as per EPA ratings. With the battery size increasing from 77.4 kwh to 84 kwh, it's expected that the range will easily exceed 250 miles.

The interior offers a choice of four nappa leather shades, among them an exclusive Ultramarine Blue, which pairs well with the ten available colors for the exterior.

The latest version, set for release in 2025, comes equipped with a two-motor system capable of producing 429 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque. Additionally, it features a temporary boost mode that can ramp up the horsepower to 483 for quick 10-second intervals. The interior design gives off a forward-thinking aesthetic, featuring a "hovering" dash design, sleek air vents, and mood lighting. There's a choice between six dual-color schemes to either match or stand out against 16 available colors for the car's exterior, all while incorporating environmentally friendly materials across the board.

The forward seating comes equipped with armrests, and there's a central compartment that not only provides access to the front area but is also accessible to those sitting in the second row. This compartment can be adjusted backward by a maximum of 7.5 inches and features a two-tiered tray system, with the bottom tier designed to slide out. Hyundai highlights the inclusion of 100-watt USB-C outlets accessible in each row. Another feature of interest is the optional UV-C sterilizer tray that can sanitize items like mobile phones or face masks, although it remains to be seen whether this option will be available in our market.

2025 GMC Sierra EV Denali Review: A Heavyweight Multitasking Marvel on Narrow Trails

Critique: The all-new electric 2025 GMC Sierra EV Denali excels at juggling various tasks.

"Having traveled that path before, I can attest it's not suitable for a hefty full-size truck, especially one tipping the scales at close to 9,000 pounds."

I shared my partial astonishment with the person beside me as we got into a 2025 GMC Sierra EV and started our journey, navigating the tight roads among the Redwoods and along portions of Skyline Boulevard in the Bay Area.

I had a good recollection of the pathways; the journey consisted of various winding stretches of road along the hills which I had a great time driving through previously in a compact Volkswagen GTI. However, I totally misjudged the Sierra EV's capabilities.

Measuring approximately 233 inches in length and 84 inches in width, excluding mirrors, the sizable electric truck handled constricted paths with surprising ease. Its rear-wheel steering allowed for precise maneuvering, as it turns the rear wheels slightly in the opposite direction to the front wheels during tight, low-speed turns. The Sierra EV's dual-motor system provided immediate power, ensuring we maintained a steady climb uphill, while the air suspension system contributed to a balanced ride. Additionally, the effective regenerative braking system, with its Normal and High settings, helped us maintain appropriate speeds during sharp descents.

I approached the day already aware of the truck's impressive claimed range of 460 miles and its quick acceleration capabilities—there was no need to convince me of its ability to silently surge to 60 mph in 4.5 seconds, if not less. Yet, GMC guided us on a journey I wouldn’t have picked for myself, filled with winding roads, some towing, a bit of off-roading to showcase the rear-wheel steering's incredible agility and the helpful camera angles, along with a test of the CrabWalk feature, which aligns the rear wheels with the front. They also threw us into a quick-paced challenge to pack an array of recreational equipment into the Sierra EV.

As the day concluded, it was a learning experience. GMC didn't create an eccentric design (unlike the Cybertruck), target the adventure enthusiasts (like the R1T), nor did they just electrify their best-selling truck (similar to the F-150 Lightning).

The GMC Sierra EV finds its place alongside the GMC Hummer EV within the GMC range. The distinction between them is made clear by the brand, which suggests that while the Hummer EV is considered the showpiece pickup, the Sierra EV is the workhorse. In terms of what it brings to the market, it stands out significantly more. For those in need of maximum space for bulky goods and extensive range capabilities for towing and carrying heavy loads, the Sierra EV is the go-to option.

The upcoming 2025 GMC Sierra EV impresses with one of the highest range figures in the market, not due to exceptional efficiency but owing to its hefty battery capacity. It features two dual-layer battery packs that can be linked in series, enabling 800-volt DC rapid charging. The larger 205 kWh Max Range battery pack is estimated by GM to deliver 460 miles, while the smaller 170 kWh Extended Range version provides 390 miles. The Max Range's estimate is not EPA-rated since its significant battery size places the Sierra EV in a heavier vehicle category not covered by standard EPA metrics.

During our test drive covering close to 90 miles across diverse roads and highways, the Sierra EV's onboard computer indicated an efficiency of 1.9 miles per kilowatt-hour. This implies that we could potentially achieve a driving range exceeding 390 miles under similar conditions.

The large-capacity battery expands potential uses. With the Extended Range option, the Sierra EV is capable of towing up to 10,500 pounds, or 10,000 pounds if equipped with the Max Range option. Even though towing might cut the driving range by half, it's less of a concern in this context.

The Sierra EV demonstrates ease in towing and accommodating equipment

During a brief test run while pulling a 5,500-pound trailer, the Sierra EV appeared largely unaffected, showing acceleration capabilities surpassing that of a heavily burdened minivan. When put through a course with two instances of full acceleration, it maintained an average of 1.0 miles per kilowatt-hour as per the onboard trip computer—suggesting a potential towing range of up to 200 miles with a hefty load such as a horse trailer or sizable boat.

The model I tested offers a maximum range, producing as much as 760 horsepower and 785 pound-feet of torque, thanks to a pair of permanent magnet motors crafted by GM. While the Extended Range models maintain nearly identical components, except for the battery pack, they generate a slightly lower 645 horsepower, yet the torque remains the same at 785 pound-feet.

The impressive performance stats and swift 4.5-second 0-60 mph time for the Max variant are exclusively available in the Max Power setting. In addition to this, the Sierra EV offers a variety of driving modes including Normal-Tour, Off-Road, Tow-Haul, and an option for personalized settings. GM has not disclosed the maximum power output for these alternate modes.

The Sierra EV features an 11.0-cubic-foot front trunk, or eTrunk, complete with amenities such as a cupholder, drainage system, and weatherproofing. However, the real highlight in terms of adaptable storage is the Midgate. This innovative feature allows you to quickly transform the rear seating area into an extended cargo bed. With this adjustment, you can achieve a cargo length of 9 feet and 1 inch with the tailgate up, or an even longer space of 10 feet and 10 inches when the tailgate is down and the flip-down tailgate step is utilized to secure lengthy objects, such as a kayak.

Experts have pointed out that the Midgate feature is designed for frequent, not sporadic use. Although it isn't resistant to the elements, it serves as an excellent option for transporting equipment a short distance to a starting location without the need for specialized hauling equipment. Additionally, it allows for the convenience of keeping one of the rear seats occupied even while it's in use.

The Sierra EV Denali comes with a hefty price tag, yet it boasts an impressive array of features

While the GMC Sierra shares many similarities with the Chevrolet Silverado EV RST, it distinguishes itself in the electric vehicle and pickup segments in several ways. For its 2024 model year, the Sierra EV is available exclusively in the high-end Denali edition, which includes the most comprehensive options such as the largest available battery, air suspension, steering for the rear wheels, and a suite of features that position it as one of the most upscale offerings in the full-size pickup category.

In the latest update for the 2025 models, we're seeing minor adjustments in pricing, the introduction of an Extended Range option, and an increase of 20 miles in the Max Range variant, attributed to enhancements in motor efficiency. I spent my time evaluating the premium Sierra EV Denali model with the Max Range option, which carries a starting price of $100,495. This figure includes the $2,095 destination charge, but excludes any extra costs for towing and storage add-ons.

The Sierra EV Denali model comes equipped with features such as an adjustable air suspension, steering for the back wheels, a wide sunroof, and front seats that both heat and cool. It boasts leather seats, a steering wheel that heats up, heated rear seats, a display projected onto the windshield, compatibility with wi-fi hotspots, and a seven-speaker system from Bose. It also includes a wireless charging pad ingeniously built into a movable console tray, alongside an abundance of USB-C connections and a 120-volt power outlet within the cabin. Moreover, it features a 7.2-kw AC power supply that could potentially negate the necessity for a portable generator at campsites or construction sites.

During my short time testing the Sierra EV, I didn't have the opportunity to plug it in for a recharge. The maximum charging speeds are advertised at 350 kw for the Max Range model and 300 kw for the Extended Range model. According to GM, when using a 350-kw CCS charging station, the vehicle can regain roughly 100 miles of driving distance in a mere 10 minutes. Previously, GM has stated that these battery options can charge from 10% to 80% in around 40 minutes. To assist in reaching these optimal charging speeds, GMC has incorporated a battery warming system that can be activated through the built-in navigation system or by a digital button.

The interior of the GMC Sierra EV Denali stands out from its Chevrolet Silverado EV counterpart due to its unique 16.8-inch vertical display, contrasting with Chevy's horizontal setup. Similar to the Silverado EV and other recent GM electric vehicles, it comes equipped with an integrated Google system, allowing the use of various Google apps. However, it lacks the ability to support or incorporate Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The Sierra EV comes with GM's advanced Super Cruise technology, which offers three years of hands-free driving and semi-automatic lane shifting on a network of over 750,000 miles of pre-mapped roads and highways, provided the driver remains alert. This feature has been updated to function even while pulling a trailer. During a test with a 5,500-pound trailer, I activated Super Cruise and noticed it maintained the vehicle's lane position and controlled the speed effectively through regenerative braking. However, the technology isn't flawless or fully dependable. For instance, while driving on US-101 near Palo Alto, the system frequently turned off due to its inability to detect the road’s worn and irregular lane markings, which were otherwise clearly visible to us.

GMC has successfully designed their vehicle interiors to be quite spacious for individuals with a taller stature, both in the front and back seats, providing ample space above and an excellent outward visibility. The seating is both luxurious and firm, ensuring comfort in both the front and back.

The interior of the vehicle is remarkably hushed, thanks to a trio of features: a noise suppression capability integrated into the Bose sound system, enhanced sound insulation relative to other GMC models, and sound-dampening windows. Together, these elements create a serene atmosphere akin to that of a high-end automobile.

The atmosphere is maintained in this Denali model, featuring exquisite stitching on the ventilated front seats, intricately designed speaker covers, precisely cut wooden accents, and a consistently precise assembly throughout. Time will tell if these high-quality standards will remain in the upcoming more affordable models.

GMC anticipates introducing cost-effective Sierra EV AT4 and Elevation versions by 2025, yet it remains unclear if these will be designated as 2025 or 2026 models. General Motors has not provided recent details on the increase in manufacturing of these vehicles at its Lake Orion facility in Michigan, which stopped producing the Bolt EV almost a year earlier. Production will continue to be restricted until these plans are set in motion.

However, one can also imagine a more fully equipped Sierra EV variant featuring magnetic suspension to mitigate the intense, roller-coaster-like sensation experienced during swift acceleration on uneven roads. Maybe such upgrades will refine the base for the soon-to-be-released Cadillac Escalade IQ.

GM has surpassed numerous assumptions, including mine, demonstrating their ability to produce an impressive electric truck. The next step is to increase their production.

Kia's compact car will soon have a successor, while the SUV will be updated.

Kia's popular compact models, the Ceed, Ceed Sportswagon, and Sportage are embarking on their final journey. Next year, the Ceed will be replaced by a new model, and the Sportage will undergo a redesign, which has already been unveiled in Korea. As a result, the current versions of these vehicles are now available in a new limited "Ultimate Edition" series.

The name is derived from the finishing straight where the current series of models stand. This special edition is based on the basic Vision model, yet for a relatively small additional cost, it includes a wide range of extra features, positioning it roughly at the level of the more upscale Spirit variant.

The engine options include various turbocharged gasoline units: a 1.0-liter three-cylinder engine delivering 100 horsepower (73.6 kW) and a 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine with 140 horsepower (103 kW) for the Ceed models, and for the Sportage, a 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 160 horsepower (118 kW). These engines can be paired with either a six-speed manual transmission or a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT). All automatic versions, as well as the manual Sportage, come standard with a 48-volt mild hybrid system.

Purchasers of the Ultimate Edition have the added advantage of participating in Kia's trade-in offer: Until December 31, 2024, individual customers who trade in their used car of any brand at authorized Kia dealerships will receive a trade-in bonus of 5,000 euros for a new Sportage, and a bonus of 4,000 euros for the Ceed and Ceed Sportswagon models.

Every new Kia vehicle, including the Ultimate Edition, comes with the standard 7-year Kia manufacturer's warranty and a 7-year update for the Kia navigation maps. The convenience of over-the-air (OTA) functionality allows for easy updates of maps and software without the need to take the vehicle to a dealership.

The top-tier version of the Ceed and its estate variant come equipped straight from the factory with features such as a 10.25-inch navigation system, a smart key, dual-zone automatic climate control, heated and height-adjustable front seats with electric lumbar support, a heated leather steering wheel, a rearview camera, an electronic parking brake, parking sensors at the front and rear, 16-inch alloy wheels, and for the Sportswagon model, an added cargo net and roof rails.

Additionally, the vehicle comes equipped with a variety of safety features including a front collision alert system with pedestrian and cyclist detection, an active blind spot monitor with steering and braking adjustments, lane keeping and lane following assistance, smart speed control, a drowsiness alert, and automatic high beam adjustments. For those models with the DCT transmission, there's also a navigation-guided adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capabilities and an advanced front collision system that includes an intersection function.

As an option, customers can opt for a high-end JBL sound system that features eight speakers, including a subwoofer, and a package that comes with 17-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, and tinted windows starting from the B-pillar for added privacy. The available exterior colors include Carrara White and metallic options such as Zilina Black, Lunar Silver, Yucca Steel Grey, and Pentametal, with an additional charge for metallic paints. Pricing for the Ceed Ultimate Edition begins at €27,390 for the 1.0 T-GDI manual transmission model and €29,390 for the automatic DCT variant. The station wagon version is priced at €1,000 more for each respective model.

The Sportage Ultimate Edition comes equipped with 18-inch alloy wheels and a standard package that includes LED headlights, a panoramic screen setup featuring large 12.3-inch displays for both the digital dashboard and the navigation system, as well as access to Kia's online services through Kia Connect. Additional features include electrically adjustable front seats, fabric seat covers with faux leather details, heated seats in both the front and back, tinted windows for privacy, dual-zone automatic climate control, parking sensors at the front and rear, a rearview camera, an electronic parking brake, heated and electrically folding side mirrors, and a split rear seatback with adjustable inclination.

The unveiling of a fresh Ceed and the latest Sportage model:

A leather package is available as an option. This package includes seat covers made from a mix of genuine leather and suede, and also offers front seats with ventilation. The range of body colors includes Carrara White, with metallic options such as Zilina Black, Yuka Grey, and Pentametal, although selecting a metallic finish will incur an additional cost. The front-wheel-drive Sportage 1.6 T-GDI Ultimate Edition with a manual transmission is priced at 36,990 Euros, while the version with a dual-clutch transmission (DCT) is priced at 39,490 Euros.

This will be followed by the launch of new model series, the BMW i1 and BMW i2, built on the NBx platform in 2027 and 2028. BMW's CEO Oliver Zipse announced, "In just about a year, we will begin mass production of a New Class SAV model at our new plant in Debrecen, Hungary. Shortly after, we'll continue with the production of a sporty sedan at our main factory in Munich."

Milan Nedeljković, BMW AG's Board Member for Production, states that the commencement of trial vehicle production in Debrecen marks a significant step towards the new plant's operational launch. The virtually production-ready vehicles will now thoroughly test the site's logistics and manufacturing processes under actual conditions, with ongoing enhancements to ensure a smooth initiation of mass production.

On the journey to mass production

The process of introducing new models at a factory begins with the production of near-series vehicles – a critical step in preparing for mass production in Debrecen. These test vehicles go through every step of the production process. This means that all logistics processes, production equipment, and the tasks performed by factory workers must operate smoothly from the get-go. The procedures are as intricate as they are during actual mass production. Even though the number of parts may still be small, they must be provided within the respective logistics processes.

Every day, supplies and auto parts are delivered to the Debrecen plant. Test vehicles are consistently produced. Each component and aspect of the manufacturing process is meticulously examined. Special focus is given to the verification of cutting-edge production machinery and tools, along with their digital integration.

The trial run with the upcoming vehicle model has revealed additional opportunities for improvement. This means that, in the coming months, the processes will be refined using the insights gained. Furthermore, the new staff members will undergo thorough training on the equipment and machinery during this period. Close collaboration across all production areas will ensure that, when mass production begins, all operations will seamlessly interlock.
