Wolff Slams Sabotage Theorists Amid Hamilton’s F1 Struggles: Calls for Respect and Unity in Racing
"Toto Wolff counters Lewis Hamilton conspiracy theorists with sharp criticism"
Toto Wolff suggests conspiracy theorists find a different sport to follow after allegations of sabotage against Mercedes surfaced.
Toto Wolff, the team principal of Mercedes F1, has dismissed claims suggesting Lewis Hamilton's vehicle was deliberately tampered with, stating those who believe such theories are lacking intelligence and might be better off following a different sport.
Journalists and key Formula 1 personalities were sent an undisclosed email the day following the Canadian Grand Prix. The sender, claiming to be part of the Mercedes crew, alleged that the team intentionally compromised the car of the seven-time world champion, endangering his life in the process.
On Friday, Wolff revealed that Mercedes had reported the incident to the authorities.
In 2025, Hamilton is set to move to Ferrari, and during the Spanish Grand Prix, he managed to qualify ahead of his Mercedes teammate, George Russell, for the second occasion this season. This achievement was followed by securing his initial podium of the year by finishing third in the race on Sunday.
Wolff expressed his complete disregard for conspiracy theorists, stating that they lack intelligence, in response to a question about whether Hamilton's podium finish should silence any detractors.
"Our aim is to have a car that excels in races and secures championships. Anyone who doesn't share this goal might be better suited to following a different sport. It's encouraging to witness him having an outstanding weekend, especially since it's been some time since he's enjoyed such success and strategic decisions have previously worked to his disadvantage."
"However, today things turned out to his advantage, and I'm pleased he secured a spot on the podium, especially since it's been some time since his last one."
During the initial stages of Q3 in Saturday's qualifying session, Russell was overheard expressing dissatisfaction with Hamilton via the team radio. On Sunday, the two competed closely on the track, but this time, Hamilton emerged victorious.
In response to a question about his worries regarding the dynamic between Russell and Hamilton, Wolff stated, "A competitive spirit among drivers is inevitable, particularly when the vehicle has the potential to triumph. It's a standard occurrence."
"However, both individuals show a great deal of respect towards one another. Within the team, there's a strong emphasis on openness."
"I've come to understand that we're moving forward without restraint, ensuring that no feelings of hostility take root. From this perspective, it seems like it's just another day at the office."
