Whispers of Change: Eddie Jordan Predicts Max Verstappen’s Shift to Mercedes in 2026 Amid F1’s New Dawn
Rumors suggest Max Verstappen might join Mercedes in 2026, a topic of quiet discussion in the F1 circles. The belief is that Mercedes will have a strong showing in '26, prompting many to gravitate towards the team.
Eddie Jordan claims to have information suggesting Max Verstappen will move to Mercedes in 2026.
Toto Wolff openly expressed his ambition to attract the Red Bull racer to Mercedes, aiming to fill the vacancy left by Lewis Hamilton's move to Ferrari.
However, Verstappen has reaffirmed his dedication to Red Bull, leading to the anticipation that Mercedes will likely select Kimi Antonelli to fill Hamilton's spot in the coming year.
Former Formula 1 team leader Jordan has stated that Verstappen is likely to remain at Red Bull for the time being.
"Indeed, for the year 2025," he shared on his Formula For Success podcast.
"In 2025, I predict Max will come out on top. This prediction stands for both 2024 and 2025."
Nonetheless, the introduction of the new Formula 1 rules in 2026 will offer all teams an equal opportunity to lead the sport.
Jordan is of the opinion that with the introduction of the new regulations, Mercedes has the opportunity to gain a significant advantage over their competitors.
He has subtly suggested that the allure of the top engine under the '26 rules might entice Verstappen.
"Jordan pointed out that Mercedes possesses a remarkable capability in engine technology and their grasp of how to efficiently use battery packs. This, he believes, will give them an incredibly powerful engine."
"I anticipate Mercedes showing strength in 2026, which is why I believe people will eagerly flock to it."
"I'd appreciate it if you could inquire about who I envision being part of Mercedes in 2026."
"Based on the information I've gathered, Max…"
Earlier this year, during the unrest at Red Bull, Mercedes showed interest in Verstappen for the upcoming season.
The turmoil appears to have calmed, and there's no longer any indication that Verstappen will leave after this year.
Antonelli, a young driver in his first season of Formula 2, is widely anticipated to take over Hamilton's spot at Mercedes in 2025.
However, a year later, as the entire sport undergoes significant changes because of the updated rules, is it possible that Verstappen could actually request a transfer to Mercedes?
