VR46 Team Challenges Ducati’s Decision to Trim Factory Bikes Amidst Pramac’s Shift to Yamaha
VR46 opposes Ducati's choice to field only three factory motorcycles
VR46 team leader responds to proposal for reduced number of factory Ducatis in 2025
VR46 disagrees with Ducati's decision to field only three factory bikes for the next season.
Pramac's departure from its role as a Ducati satellite team to join forces with Yamaha will significantly alter the competitive landscape in 2025.
Ducati's satellite team lineup will shrink, with only VR46 and Gresini remaining, cutting their fleet from eight motorcycles to six.
At present, Pramac benefits from having two factory bikes, but in the upcoming season, Ducati will provide just one to VR46 and none to Gresini.
"I don't completely share Gigi Dall'Igna's opinion," Uccio Salucci, the head of the VR46 team, mentioned to Motorsport.
“We will only have one new bike, although I had hoped for two like we usually do.”
"However, it is ultimately Ducati's decision, and we will have to manage with what we are given."
"We'll do our best to make it successful, despite other manufacturers having four while we only have three. However, this will make our setup even more special, as there will be two red ones and one of ours."
Fabio di Giannantonio, who is presently riding a year-old Desmosedici for VR46, is anticipated to sign a new contract to continue with the team and will benefit from using a GP25 in the upcoming season.
His fellow team member's status is still unclear. VR46 has seen Marco Bezzecchi move to Aprilia.
Salucci feels assured about the team's position within Ducati's more compact lineup for the upcoming season.
"They selected us to be the benchmark team beginning in 2025 because Pramac departed, but Ducati had already decided on us for 2027 as a benchmark team, regardless of Pramac," he emphasized.
This season, Di Giannantonio has been the top performer for VR46, continuing his impressive form from the end of 2023 with Gresini, where he clinched victory in the Qatar MotoGP.
In contrast, Bezzecchi has struggled significantly more with the GP23 compared to the GP22, despite winning his and his team's first MotoGP race in 2023.
