Volkswagen Revamps the Nivus: A Glimpse into the 2025 Facelift and its Impact on the European Taigo
VW Nivus (2025): A Refresh for the Brazil-Specific Taigo
Will its European counterpart receive a similar update soon?
Volkswagen unveils the third Brazilian redesign of the year with the Nivus, following updates to the T-Cross and Amarok. Introduced in 2020, the compact SUV coupe undergoes its first aesthetic revision in the region, maintaining the 200 TSI engine across both its variants. Additionally, a Nivus GTS has been confirmed for release in 2025.
Why are we sharing this with you? Well, the Nivus is essentially our European Taigo, save for a slightly shorter wheelbase. It was launched in Europe in September 2021. A model update seems likely considering VW updated the closely related T-Cross over a year ago.
Looking ahead to Brazil's 2025 model year Nivus, the vehicle sports a wider lower grille at the front, with a more defined upper grille that's complemented by an LED strip to enhance the night-time lighting signature alongside the revamped, more slender headlights. The Highline variant's 17-inch wheels will see subtle tweaks, and at the rear, there's a redesigned bumper coupled with an LED linkage connecting the taillights.
The interior of the Nivus has been updated with new designs on the seats and door panels, featuring an increased use of soft-touch materials. The multimedia system, VW Play, has been enhanced to the Connect version, which includes a dedicated connectivity package with built-in internet and updated graphics. The Brazilian Meu-VW app has been advanced to allow voice interaction with the vehicle, enabling commands such as starting the engine, unlocking doors, and vehicle tracking.
The 2025 Volkswagen Nivus Highline is set to receive upgrades in its driver assistance systems. Enhancements include an adaptive cruise control and collision alert with automatic braking. Additionally, the SUV coupe will be equipped with the Travel Assist feature, which integrates lane-keeping assistance, a blind-spot sensor, an exit assistant, and an automatic parking aid in collaboration with ACC. The Comfortline model will come standard with automatic climate control and a key fob with push-button start. For both models, the first three maintenance services will be provided at no charge.
The Nivus makes its debut featuring two shades of blue: Turbo Blue, a hue adopted from Audi, and Titan Blue, a blend of grey and blue. It's powered by a 1.0-liter turbocharged engine coupled with a six-speed automatic transmission, delivering 116/128 horsepower (depending on whether it's fueled by regular gasoline or ethanol) at 5,500 rpm. This engine, known as the 200 TSI, has been updated solely to meet the new emission and consumption standards set to take effect in 2025. The Sense version will be introduced later, as will the Nivus GTS.
New Volkswagen Releases for Europe:
The starting price for the new Nivus in Brazil is set at 136,990 Brazilian Real, which is approximately 22,400 Euros. However, in Germany, the price kicks off at 22,865 Euros, but for a version with just 95 horsepower.
