Vinales’ Shocking Switch: The Biggest Surprise of MotoGP’s Silly Season Unveiled
"Top shocker" of MotoGP off-season pinpointed
"He made the move before being forced out."
Maverick Vinales' departure from Aprilia has been dubbed as the most unusual transaction in this summer's MotoGP rider marketplace.
Vinales is set to depart from Aprilia to join Tech3 KTM in the upcoming season, teaming up with Enea Bastianini in a partnership that benefits from complete factory backing.
His reputation soared following victories at the Grand Prix of the Americas and the Texas sprint race, marking him as the first MotoGP competitor to achieve Sunday wins with four distinct manufacturers.
News that Vinales is set to join KTM in 2025 has taken paddock insiders by surprise.
"Truthfully, the most unexpected part was leaving the Aprilia factory seat," remarked Neil Hodgson from TNT Sports.
"Shifting to Tech3 KTM, which isn't the primary factory team, could be considered the most unusual decision."
"However, he doesn't hesitate to make unconventional decisions."
In my view, it seems he's received a hint or indication that Aprilia might not keep him on board after April.
"He took the initiative to leap before being forced to."
Sylvain Guintoli commented, “It appeared that Vinales was not going to be offered a new contract with Aprilia.
"Had it been possible for Maverick to remain with Aprilia, he certainly would have."
The situation inside Aprilia's racing team, with Martin being a key figure and the desire to include an Italian rider, seems to have left Maverick without a position.
"Possibly, they presented him with the opportunity at Trackhouse? He chose instead to join the KTM team."
Aleix Espargaro has announced he will be retiring, and Jorge Martin will take over his position at Aprilia starting next year.
The company, which openly expressed its ambition to have an Italian racer on board, will have Marco Bezzecchi take over Vinales' position in 2025.
Vinales is set to seize an unprecedented chance to secure a MotoGP victory with his fifth different team as he joins KTM's secondary squad next season.
Bastianini, who was replaced at the official Ducati team by Marc Marquez in the most talked-about move of the off-season, will accompany him.
Bastianini opted to leave Ducati instead of accepting a demotion to a secondary team.
Guintoli responded, "Among riders, it's about respect. When you've had the experience of being part of a factory team…
"He wasn't to blame for his injury. This presents an excellent chance for him. The motorcycle is incredibly speedy."
