Verstappen Baffled by Red Bull’s Qualifying Woes at Monza: A Struggle for Balance Ahead of Italian GP
Max Verstappen is perplexed by Red Bull's Q3 challenges, stating the car is "Not very driveable."
He expressed, "It's quite challenging to handle, to achieve a proper equilibrium."
Max Verstappen is at a loss to explain Red Bull's disappointing performance during the qualifying rounds of the F1 Italian Grand Prix.
At Monza, Verstappen had a challenging time, managing only a seventh-place start, marking his poorest qualification performance since the Grand Prix in Singapore in 2023.
The Dutch driver posted slower times during both of his third qualifying session laps compared to his performance on previously used tires in the second qualifying session.
Tomorrow might turn into a calamitous day for Verstappen and Red Bull in the championship, considering McLaren secured the first two spots on the starting grid.
In a conversation with Sky Sports following the session, Verstappen commented, “It's quite challenging to maneuver, to achieve a proper equilibrium. Addressing one problem often triggers another.”
"The car's handling leaves much to be desired, to put it mildly. The performance in Q2 was somewhat manageable, but for reasons I can't quite pinpoint, the final qualifying round, Q3, saw a significant downturn. I experienced considerable understeer with both sets of tires, which bafflingly contributed to a noticeable drop in my lap times."
"Attempting to force the edges is futile; adopting a V-shaped approach is advisable, though inexplicably, this method proves ineffective. The reason for this challenge remains unclear to me at this time."
Verstappen is skeptical about Red Bull's chances of making a comeback in the race, citing the team's lack of a well-balanced vehicle as the main issue.
"He also mentioned, “The extended distances I covered weren’t showing much hope either. The issue lies in our vehicle's lack of balance. Without a balanced car, it becomes challenging for the tyres.”
"The challenge intensifies during the competition. I believe that will also be the case in tomorrow's event."
Verstappen currently holds a 70-point lead over Lando Norris in the championship rankings.
In response to inquiries regarding the championship contention, Verstappen remarked, "The recent races haven't been very favorable."
"We need to make a concerted effort to improve and enhance our competitiveness."
