Valtteri Bottas Sends Urgent Signal to Audi as F1 Future Hangs in the Balance
Valtteri Bottas emphasizes the importance of his message to Audi as his future in Formula 1 remains uncertain. He is eager to have clarity about his career plans during the forthcoming break.
Valtteri Bottas aims to finalize his Formula 1 future during the break before the United States Grand Prix next month.
Audi has yet to determine who will team up with Nico Hulkenberg at Sauber for the 2025 Formula 1 season.
According to reports, Bottas is the top contender for the position next year, though it would be on a one-year contract.
Mattia Binotto is exploring the possibility of recruiting younger talent, with McLaren's junior driver Gabriele Bortoleto catching his attention.
Williams' driver Franco Colapinto is another option for Sauber, as James Vowles is eager to finalize an agreement.
Bottas is currently at the bottom of the F1 drivers' standings and hasn't earned any points so far this season.
The Finnish driver has only been outperformed in qualifying on one occasion by his Sauber teammate Zhou Guanyu, showcasing his impressive one-lap pace.
In an interview with F1TV following the Singapore race, Bottas shared his expectations for the forthcoming break.
"Initially, focus on identifying the performance improvements and assess the specific upgrades that will be essential for Austin," stated Bottas.
"Organizing plans for the future is definitely at the top of my agenda, as it's beginning to feel a lot like the holiday season is approaching, so it's important to get everything in order soon."
In Singapore, Bottas was outperformed by Zhou following an early incident where he ran wide because his brakes were overheating.
Subsequently, the duo collaborated to prevent Pierre Gasly of Alpine from advancing.
“It turned out to be a tougher day than anticipated, and there was no assistance from the safety cars,” he mentioned.
"I experienced a problem with my brakes right at the start of the race. They got too hot, causing them to lock up, which cost me some time. Reflecting on the race, I don't believe we would make many changes."
“At the conclusion of the race, we collaborated as a team to prevent Gasly from overtaking, which was effective. I believe we achieved the best possible outcome today.”
