Valentino Rossi Weighs In: Bagnaia’s Battle and Marquez’s Move to Ducati Stir MotoGP Waters
Valentino Rossi endorses Pecco Bagnaia's capability to adapt to Marc Marquez joining as a teammate
Valentino Rossi has vigorously defended Pecco Bagnaia's position as he looks forward to Marc Marquez joining them next year.
In 2025, Marquez will join Ducati's official team, teaming up with the reigning MotoGP champion, Bagnaia.
Their collaboration stands as one of the most thrilling and fruitful since the alliance of Rossi and Jorge Lorenzo at Yamaha, a partnership that famously went downhill.
"Marc's appearance caught everyone off guard: myself, Pecco, and especially Jorge Martin," Rossi remarked to Marca.
"Undoubtedly, Pecco will face difficulties as his teammate might pose some challenges, yet I believe he possesses all the necessary qualities to confront him effectively."
From a journalistic perspective, the subject is compelling, but Pecco demonstrated his superiority without requiring Marquez as a teammate.
"A competitor who has secured three World Championship titles, including back-to-back victories in MotoGP riding for Ducati, lacks nothing."
Bagnaia has the potential to secure his third MotoGP championship title if he manages to maintain his existing advantage in the standings.
He holds a 10-point lead over Martin, who is in second place in the rankings, as they head into the upcoming Silverstone event.
Marquez, who is currently in third place, has yet to secure his initial victory while riding for Ducati and trails Bagnaia by 56 points.
The choice to bring on Marquez set off a chain reaction, leading to Martin, Enea Bastianini, Marco Bezzecchi, and the Pramac satellite squad parting ways with Ducati.
Ducati has countered claims that their decision to choose Marquez represents a departure from their previous focus on supporting emerging talent.
Next year, Marquez is set to become the second-most senior MotoGP competitor on the circuit as he joins forces with Bagnaia in the same team.
He is one top-tier championship away from matching the tally achieved by his formidable adversary, Rossi.
By partnering with Bagnaia, this competition is set to enter a fresh phase, as Bagnaia emerged from the ranks of the VR46 Academy.
