Unraveling Ricciardo: How F1’s New Car Philosophy Drove Daniel Ricciardo Out of the Fast Lane
Key factor identified in Daniel Ricciardo’s harsh F1 decline
New hypothesis could shed light on Daniel Ricciardo’s drop in performance
Daniel Ricciardo's struggles with adapting to the newest Formula 1 car models have been identified as a key factor in his decline.
Red Bull's sister team will immediately substitute Ricciardo with Liam Lawson.
In an emotional goodbye, Ricciardo likely competed in his last Formula 1 race during the past weekend in Singapore.
Journalist Sam Power from Australia’s Channel 10 mentioned on the F1 Nation podcast that the vehicles he expertly handled had a distinct design philosophy.
"The regulations introduced in 2022 require extremely stiff suspensions and feature a very flat floor design."
"In the past, he was accustomed to driving an Adrian Newey-designed car, which featured a high rake and significant body roll, making it quite distinct."
"There have been numerous accounts of him attempting to modify the way he drives."
"I'd speculate that it doesn't align with the design and concept of the 2022 cars more than anything else."
Ricciardo never managed to recapture the success he had at Red Bull during his time with Renault, McLaren, and AlphaTauri/RB.
After McLaren dropped him from their Formula 1 team, he was without a seat for just half a season until Red Bull came to his aid and placed him in their AlphaTauri team.
Ricciardo made a strong start, but an injury gave Lawson a short opportunity to fill in and demonstrate his clear talent to everyone.
Journalist Lawrence Barretto commented, "What causes him the most pain? It seems as though he has constantly faced challenges, always going against the flow."
Last year in Zandvoort, he injured his hand shortly after the race began, causing him to miss numerous races. The person likely to take his place is the same one who performed admirably when filling in for Ricciardo during his injury last year.
He began this year with a car that, despite not meeting his comfort standards for some reason, was still competitive.
Yuki Tsunoda managed to earn a significant number of points. However, when Ricciardo began to improve his performance, the car's results declined. Despite achieving 11th and 12th place finishes, which are commendable, they don't translate into points and thus don't appear as impressive.
"It appears to be regrettable that his performance has improved just as the car's competitiveness has declined."
"Even in Singapore, Yuki failed to earn any points. Therefore, one might say that the car still wasn't good enough to score, and he performed as well as he could given his starting position."
"He hasn't had much luck. However, many Formula 1 drivers will end their careers feeling the same way."
"His biggest challenge will be coming to terms with the fact that he never had the ideal conditions."
"Up until the August break, Red Bull was keen on having him take Perez's spot. They even discussed it."
“What could have possibly shifted over the course of four races to cause them to reverse their stance?
"In that environment, surrounded by familiar faces and in a workplace capable of rapid repairs and swift problem identification, he felt confident. Christian Horner recognized this and provided strong support for him because of it."
"He will perpetually experience a sense of incompleteness."
