Perez secured the 11th spot in the sprint race qualifying and crossed the finish line in ninth place. Meanwhile, Max Verstappen turned his pole position start into a win. During the main grand prix, Perez began in 10th position and managed to move up three places, ending in seventh. In contrast, Verstappen achieved a podium finish by taking third place.
Following the race on Sunday, Perez disclosed that he was not equipped with the new upgrade package that his teammate and championship frontrunner, Verstappen, had on his RB20.
Perez mentioned to Sky Sports F1 that their setup wasn't exactly the same, though he wasn't sure about the exact differences. He noted that they were quite a distance behind.
"It was a challenging weekend for us. Throughout the event, nothing seemed to fall into place. Although we made some advancements with the set-up, our speed remained lacking."
"We need to thoroughly examine the arrangement."
When questioned about whether his vehicle was lacking the updates to the floor edge and engine cover, Perez confirmed, "Yes, that's right."
Perez confessed that he is unsure if he will receive the components needed for his home event at the Mexico City Grand Prix happening this weekend.
"We're not certain at this point," he mentioned. "We're currently limited on components, and since we're still familiarizing ourselves with this new floor specification, there might be a delay before I receive it."
"I'm putting in my utmost effort, and that's the most important thing."
Perez is currently trailing Verstappen by 204 points in the drivers' championship. His inability to secure significant points is also impacting Red Bull's position in the constructors' standings.
