Trackhouse Aprilia Shake-Up: Davide Brivio Confirms Wilco Zeelenberg’s Departure at End of 2024 Season
Davide Brivio has confirmed that Wilco Zeelenberg will be departing from Trackhouse Aprilia after the 2024 season, as announced during the Aragon MotoGP.
Last weekend, Davide Brivio, the principal of the Trackhouse Aprilia team, announced that Wilco Zeelenberg will depart from the team after the 2024 season concludes.
Zeelenberg, who initially joined the Trackhouse team when it started as the Petronas SRT Yamaha team in 2019, will depart from the satellite Aprilia project after its second season with the Noale brand, and its first under the Trackhouse name.
In an interview with MotoGP.com pit lane reporter Simon Crafar ahead of last Sunday's Aragon MotoGP race at MotorLand, Brivio, who became part of Trackhouse in early 2024, described Zeelenberg's exit as a "very difficult" decision. He added that this move is part of the American team's efforts to explore "a new direction".
Brivio mentioned that Zeelenberg's departure was a topic they had gone over. He stated that the decision was mutual and gave significant praise to Wilco Zeelenberg for his contributions.
"To be frank, when I got here, I encountered a team that he has developed over the years. Most of this team will remain unchanged next year, so he deserves significant recognition for his efforts."
"As Trackhouse, we considered that for the future, we might need to take a different path. On one hand, it’s unfortunate, but on the other hand, it’s just a business decision."
"Reaching this decision has been extremely challenging and complicated."
The future of Zeelenberg remains uncertain at this time. He previously achieved victory in the 250cc Grand Prix and later served as a team manager for Jorge Lorenzo and then Maverick Vinales in the factory Yamaha MotoGP garage. In 2019, he transitioned to the Petronas SRT team, taking on the role of team manager.
