Trackhouse Aprilia Confirms Wilco Zeelenberg’s Departure at End of 2024 Season, Davide Brivio Announces at Aragon MotoGP
Davide Brivio has announced that Wilco Zeelenberg will be exiting Trackhouse Aprilia after the 2024 season, as confirmed during the Aragon MotoGP.
Last weekend, Davide Brivio, the team principal of Trackhouse Aprilia, announced that Wilco Zeelenberg will depart from the team after the 2024 season.
Zeelenberg, who started with the Trackhouse team when it was first formed as the Petronas SRT Yamaha team in 2019, will be departing the satellite Aprilia project after the team’s second season with the Noale brand, and its first operating under the Trackhouse name.
In an interview with MotoGP.com pit lane reporter Simon Crafar before last Sunday's Aragon MotoGP race at MotorLand, Brivio, who became part of Trackhouse at the start of 2024, shared that Zeelenberg’s exit was a “very difficult” decision. He added that it is part of the American-owned team's efforts to explore a “new direction”.
Brivio mentioned that Zeelenberg's exit was a topic they had talked about. He noted that the decision was mutual and praised Wilco Zeelenberg for his contributions.
"To be frank, when I got here, I discovered a team that he has meticulously assembled over the years. Most of this team will remain unchanged next year, so he deserves substantial recognition for his efforts."
"As Trackhouse, we believed that moving forward, we needed to explore a new path. While it's unfortunate in some ways, it's a business decision in others."
"It's never easy, and reaching this decision has been incredibly challenging."
The future of Zeelenberg remains uncertain at this time. The Dutchman, who previously won a 250cc Grand Prix, served as team manager for Jorge Lorenzo and later for Maverick Vinales in the factory Yamaha MotoGP team. In 2019, he transitioned to the Petronas SRT team, taking on the role of team manager there.
