Toto Wolff Ends Max Verstappen Pursuit, Rallies Behind New Mercedes Duo for 2025 F1 Season
Toto Wolff dismisses the idea of Max Verstappen considering a switch to Mercedes. "To me, it's akin to having a wandering eye while trying to maintain a strong partnership. It simply doesn't function, as I'm not entertaining outside interests."
Toto Wolff has announced that he will cease showing interest in Max Verstappen and instead will fully back the Mercedes drivers for the 2025 Formula 1 season.
Wolff has openly expressed his desire to bring Verstappen on board following the surprising news in February that Lewis Hamilton would be moving to Ferrari.
Despite Verstappen's decision to stay with Red Bull, Mercedes has decided to elevate the young talent Andrea Kimi Antonelli to race alongside George Russell in the 2025 Formula 1 season.
With Verstappen apparently off the table, at least for the time being, Wolff has announced that he will cease his public displays of admiration for the Dutch driver.
In a conversation with Motorsport.com, he stated, "We're taking a step back. As I've mentioned previously, and Max shares this perspective, it's essential to trust your drivers or your team. Providing them with as much support as possible is crucial for success. It's only when things go seriously awry that you might explore alternative options."
"In my view, trying to flirt with others while you're committed to making your relationship succeed is ineffective. I choose not to flirt outside my relationship."
"I would only initiate a conversation if I were considering making a change. He feels the same way. I believe we share similar values when it comes to this."
Wolff has emphasized that both Russell and Antonelli will be given "equal support" and assured that "everything remains the same" following Hamilton's departure.
"We don't have a major impact," he mentioned. "We provide them with the same emotional support, and nothing is different."
All Formula 1 drivers are aware that they must race against their teammates, regardless of age. For the past three years, George has been teammates with Lewis Hamilton, who is often regarded as the best driver in history.
"He'll do well facing off against one of the youngest contenders, who arrives with high hopes."
