Thrills and Spills: Brad Binder’s Rolling Burnout and Jack Miller’s Last-Lap Heartbreak at Aragon
Brad Binder: "I ended up doing a rolling burnout once more!" Jack Miller: "Rins edged me out." Brad Binder: "I had a solid strategy last night to avoid spinning out at the start…"
Brad Binder had his best MotoGP weekend since the season began in Qatar, finishing 4th and 6th at the Aragon race.
This occurred even though he veered off the starting line in both races. Nonetheless, he managed to secure seventh place, which was on the less cluttered side of a messy grid.
During the middle portion of the race, Binder trailed rookie Pedro Acosta, turning their contest into a fight for third place after Alex Marquez and Francesco Bagnaia collided with 5 laps remaining.
However, Acosta remained just beyond reach.
"I had a solid strategy last night to avoid losing traction at the start, and I managed to execute a rolling burnout just like I did the day before!" Binder said with a smile.
"I maneuvered through the field and overtook several competitors. It was challenging to avoid errors as the front tire was overheating from following others until the final part of the race."
"I attempted to gain time by accelerating out of the corners, as I couldn't enter them quickly due to the front tire overheating. Unfortunately, this strategy backfired, leaving the left side of the tire completely worn out by the end."
"I did everything I could to overtake Pedro, but my tires were completely worn out!"
"Aside from that, we took several encouraging steps this weekend. We experimented with the bike's balance, and it appeared to be effective over the course of the race."
Fellow racer Jack Miller had a strong start, moving up from 15th place on the grid to eighth by the end of the first lap. However, the Australian quickly faced difficulties with rear tire traction.
In the final lap, Alex Rins overtook him, pushing him down to tenth place. Subsequently, he and two other riders were penalized with a 16-second time penalty for tyre pressure violations, which ultimately relegated him to 15th position.
"It was a lengthy race," Miller commented. "The track conditions varied once more. It has been dirty for most of the weekend, but today it felt more slippery."
“I put in my maximum effort. It was challenging to manage the [medium] rear tire, and I experienced a significant highside incident while exiting the final turn.”
"I found my pace and focused on maintaining it. There were several challenges when transitioning from the outer edge to the center of the tire, but I managed to finish the race."
"I didn't make any errors during the race, but I had difficulty keeping up with the guys ahead of me. We'll continue to work hard."
Pleased to finish in the top ten, but Rins overtook me on the back straight during the final lap. I was trying my best to be accurate, but I had a poor acceleration, allowing him to pass me.
“We’ll return to Misano.”
Test rider Pol Espargaro will join the race as a wild card, increasing KTM's lineup to five this weekend.
“Next, we head to Misano, keeping in mind the upcoming test and Pol’s wildcard entry, which should provide us with some valuable insights for the future,” stated team manager Francesco Guidotti.
The initial Misano MotoGP race is set to begin with Binder trailing Acosta by three points, who currently ranks fifth in the world championship standings.
Miller, potentially set to be formally announced as a Pramac Yamaha rider at the team's home races in Italy, is currently in 15th place, trailing Monster Yamaha's Fabio Quartararo by three points.
