Steiner Labels Horner Most Annoying Among F1 Rivals, Critiques Mercedes’ Performance Woes
Guenther Steiner Asked: Who's More Irritating, Toto Wolff or Christian Horner?
Steiner Discusses Past Competitors
Toto Wolff and Christian Horner have both experienced several periods of supremacy in Formula 1 racing.
The competition between Mercedes and Red Bull, along with the verbal exchanges between their team leaders, was vividly highlighted in Netflix's Drive To Survive and remains ongoing.
The Red Flags podcast inquired of Guenther Steiner about who was more bothersome between Wolff and Horner throughout their respective times of supremacy.
Steiner contemplated, "Who was more troublesome when in charge?" He concluded, "Definitely Christian! It was always accompanied by excessive drama."
"Toto always maintained a drama-free attitude, emphasizing that their success came from being the top performers."
Sebastian Vettel led Red Bull to four consecutive championships, and currently, Max Verstappen is contending for his fourth straight title this season.
Mercedes played a pivotal role in elevating Lewis Hamilton to the status of the most triumphant Formula 1 racer, until a shift occurred during the 2021 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
Steiner has playfully criticized Mercedes for attributing their recent difficulties to tyre issues.
Following a streak of three victories in four Grand Prix races, they have once again fallen behind teams such as McLaren, Red Bull, and Ferrari.
"Steiner commented, 'I wouldn't describe them as competent. They seem somewhat confused about their actions."
George consistently makes the same remark: "the tyre is ineffective."
"Indeed, if the quality of your car is poor, the tire won't function properly! My apologies.
"I have previously visited and this isn't a novel experience for me."
"If you're unsure who to fault, simply point the finger at Pirelli! It's uncomplicated!"
There were several competitions where their performance was impressive and caught me off guard. However, they couldn't maintain that level and fell off once more.
"It fluctuates quite a bit."
'Ferrari to determine champion among drivers'
Steiner contrasted Mercedes' variable performance with that of Ferrari's.
"He mentioned it's somewhat akin to Ferraris, noting a comparable trend."
In Singapore, Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc made errors that prevented them from securing podium finishes.
"Ferrari is set to determine the champion among the drivers."
"It's about the number of points they're able to take away from Max."
"Therefore, it's important for Zak Brown to maintain a good relationship with Fred Vasseur, rather than Christian Horner, as Fred is supportive of him."
"McLaren's display in Singapore was truly impressive. Zak has a knack for making himself endearing. He manages to maintain harmony with Christian."
"He'll quietly secure the title without their awareness."
McLaren is at the forefront in the constructors' standings, while Lando Norris trails Max Verstappen by 52 points in the drivers' championship.
