Sergio Perez Defiant Amid Pressure Speculation After Q1 Exit at British Grand Prix
"Sergio Perez dismisses connection to pressure following recent Q1 departure
“Absolutely not, it's unrelated. I’m entirely concentrated on my responsibilities."
Sergio Perez has brushed aside claims that he's feeling the heat, following his early elimination in the first qualifying round due to a mishap during the Formula 1 qualifying session for the British Grand Prix.
Perez failed to maintain grip with his Red Bull during the right-hand turn at Copse during the first qualifying session, veering off course and then spinning into the gravel pit.
As the track conditions got better, and with Perez unable to participate in the qualifying round, he was eliminated in Q1, positioning him 19th on the starting grid for the race on Sunday.
While discussing his mistake, Perez shared with journalists at Silverstone, a location where Crash.net reporters are currently stationed in the paddock area: "Turn 9 posed a significant challenge, particularly at the start. I was attempting to heat the tyres before entering Turn 9, and when I downshifted, I essentially lost control of the rear quite severely, leading to me going off the track.
"The tires were cold and the area outside of the track was drenched, leading me to veer off into the gravel. Unable to halt or maintain direction, it resulted in a regrettable mishap."
Based on information from the German media, there are uncertainties surrounding Perez's continuation with Red Bull, even though he secured a new agreement with them earlier in the year.
Nonetheless, Perez dismissed suggestions that his recent error was due to pressure.
"Absolutely not, that's completely unrelated. My attention is completely devoted to my work," he emphasized. "I am entirely concentrated on extracting the best performance from myself.
"I'm aware of my potential position. Just yesterday, we experienced a day filled with optimism, with everything seeming to move towards a better outcome. So, indeed, by staying focused, it's only a matter of time until we reverse the current circumstances."
Perez additionally verified that he has not yet had a conversation with either Helmut Marko or Christian Horner after the qualifying session.
The athlete from Mexico emphasizes that his primary goal is to regain the performance level he exhibited at the start of the season, following a series of challenging outcomes, especially during Saturday events.
"No, absolutely not, I'm entirely concentrated on my work, my main goal is to ensure success tomorrow, so there's no need for me to concern myself with anything beyond that," he further stated.
"I am the one most worried about it, so my goal is to return to my peak condition as soon as I can, and yes, concentrate entirely on regaining my form."
