Sauber F1 Team Strengthens Technical Ranks with Stefano Sordo Ahead of Audi Collaboration
Sauber strengthens their Formula 1 technical squad by welcoming a new member in preparation for Audi's arrival.
Sauber has strengthened their Formula 1 technical crew by bringing on Stefano Sordo as the new director of performance.
Sordo is set to assume the freshly established position of performance director, as Sauber prepares for Audi's entry in 2026.
The individual from Italy will be directly under the supervision of James Key, the technical director, marking the most recent significant acquisition by Audi.
Sordo brings over twenty years of elite motorsport expertise to the table.
He dedicated several years to working as a race engineer with teams such as Arrows, Jaguar, and Red Bull, prior to taking on the role of aero performance leader in 2007.
In 2014, Sordo advanced to the position of chief of aerodynamic performance, later transitioning to a role at McLaren in 2016.
After dedicating six years to Woking, he transitioned to the United States to join RLL Racing. In his new role as technical director, he participated in Indycar and ISMA competitions.
Regarding the recent announcement, Sauber's Chief Executive Officer Andreas Seidl remarked, "Bringing Stefano on board marks a significant milestone in the evolution of our technical team's organization."
Stefano possesses a deep understanding of the components necessary for a victorious team, contributes a significant amount of expertise, and, given his varied background in multiple positions, he is ideally suited to evaluate our technical processes' pros and cons, and to tackle the necessary improvements.
"Our technical crew in Hinwil is highly capable, and bringing Stefano on board will enable us to leverage their expertise, transforming it into tangible results. This is especially vital as we prepare for the launch of the Audi F1 works team, marking a critical phase for our group."
Sordo expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “I am thrilled to be part of the Stake F1 Team KICK Sauber, and to embrace a position that will significantly influence unleashing our company's existing potential and elevate it to unprecedented levels.
"The squad is facing a pivotal moment in its journey, as we stand on the brink of embarking on the Audi chapter. I am eager to face the upcoming challenges. The goals we've set are lofty, yet there's a palpable sense of optimism across the board."
