Sainz Reflects on McLaren’s Dutch GP Triumph: A Depressing Yet Unifying Moment for F1 Teams
Carlos Sainz's reaction to McLaren's overwhelming victory at the Dutch Grand Prix: "It's disheartening for everyone"
"However, on the bright side, it's disheartening for everyone, not solely for Ferrari."
Carlos Sainz expressed his dismay at McLaren's overwhelming performance at the Dutch Grand Prix, labeling it as disheartening for everyone following Lando Norris's remarkable win in the F1 race on Sunday.
Norris secured his second Formula 1 win, crossing the finish line more than 22 seconds ahead, and shortened Verstappen’s advantage in the championship standings to 70 points, with nine races remaining.
Norris experienced a weekend of ease, reminiscent of the earlier season superiority shown by Red Bull.
Following a disappointing performance in the qualifying round from Ferrari, where Charles Leclerc lagged behind the pole position by 0.9 seconds and Sainz was eliminated in Q2, the race unexpectedly turned out to be quite successful for the Italian team.
Leclerc successfully held back Oscar Piastri to secure a spot on the podium, while Sainz made a comeback to clinch a position in the top five.
Following the race at Zandvoort, where Crash.net had a presence in the paddock, Sainz highlighted that McLaren's superiority was largely attributed to Norris having an "exceptionally strong weekend."
"Indeed, it's somewhat comforting to know the gloom is shared, not solely weighing on Ferrari," he clarified. "Thankfully, we're not trailing behind Red Bull… and Mercedes too. We even overtook a Red Bull today, and during the race, we were able to catch up to a McLaren."
"Lando certainly had an impressive weekend. It's important to acknowledge his performance. With Oscar finishing in fourth place, it's clear that it wasn't just McLaren standing out. Lando really must have put in a strong performance over the weekend."
Ferrari has resolved its difficulties that have persisted since Monaco, though they still face challenges with bouncing.
Consequently, they have to adjust the car's configuration to prevent the bouncing from happening.
Sainz anticipates that improvements planned for upcoming races will resolve these issues.
"He mentioned, 'It's not significantly affected, but slightly.' He expressed his hope that once they identify or uncover the precise cause of this porpoising issue, which he believes they are somewhat delayed in comprehending."
"We're optimistic that the introduction of a new floor or upcoming enhancements will resolve these issues, allowing us to concentrate on increasing the car's downforce."
