Rising Star Kimi Antonelli Gains Toto Wolff’s Support Despite Lacking Driver’s License: A Glimpse into Mercedes’ Future
Kimi Antonelli lacks a driving license, yet receives support from Toto Wolff.
"The most skilled individuals will manage to handle the level of examination and stress."
Toto Wolff remains vocal in his praise for Andrea Kimi Antonelli, despite the fact that he still hasn't obtained his driving license.
Young racer Antonelli is seen as a prime candidate to follow in Lewis Hamilton’s footsteps with Mercedes.
Though he may not have reached the legal age to operate a vehicle on public streets, he enjoys steadfast backing from Mercedes leader Wolff.
"Wolff expressed at Silverstone, where Crash.net is present in the paddock, his appreciation for his overall demeanor, particularly how he and his close-knit family realistically evaluate circumstances, recognizing what is satisfactory and what falls short."
"And I believe that the pressure doesn't negatively affect his performance behind the wheel or his driving skills, especially since he has a solid point of reference in Ollie Bearman."
"They share a strong bond and experienced a competitive race in Austria. On Sunday, Kimi encountered a problem with his clutch release."
Bearman, a 19-year-old from Britain, has been officially announced as a full-time driver for Haas for the upcoming season.
Bearman made a significant impact during his debut Formula 1 race, stepping in for the ill Carlos Sainz to drive a Ferrari at this year's Saudi Arabian Grand Prix. There, he managed to secure a seventh-place finish, outpacing both Hamilton and Lando Norris.
There's considerable optimism that Antonelli might prove to be equally remarkable.
"It's apparent you'll need to swim," Wolff stated.
"His career has advanced swiftly; at 17, he doesn't even possess a driver's license for a road vehicle."
"The top performers will manage to handle the level of examination and stress, which is expected to only increase."
Mercedes has deliberately postponed making a choice on who will take over Hamilton's position, as he is poised to join Ferrari in 2025.
However, Wolff has once again made it possible for Sainz to consider his options, as he has not yet made a decision on his future steps
Sainz's decision offers Wolff the opportunity to let Antonelli progress in his career without the pressure of the F1 limelight.
