Ricciardo’s Red Bull Return Hopes Unfazed Despite Closed Door Until 2027
Daniel Ricciardo maintains hope of a Red Bull comeback, unfazed by not securing a spot for the 2025 F1 season.
Ricciardo and his RB colleague Yuki Tsunoda were not considered by Red Bull, which chose to extend Sergio Perez's contract for another two years, an announcement made before the Canadian Grand Prix this weekend.
Given that Max Verstappen, the world champion, is secured in his contract through 2028, it suggests that, at least in theory, there won't be an open position until 2027 at the soonest.
However, 34-year-old Ricciardo remains optimistic about achieving his goal of making a comeback to the Red Bull main team before his Formula 1 career concludes.
"Ricciardo mentioned in Montreal, 'This doesn't shock me at all, nor does it alter anything on my end.'"
"Clearly, my aim is to return there eventually. However, I'm also aware that my performance this season hasn't been outstanding."
"I experienced an incredible time in Miami, but apart from that, my emotions have fluctuated, and given my experience, I'm aware that I aspire to achieve more."
From the outset of the initial races, my concentration was solely on maximizing my efforts in this space. By doing so, I believed I would have the greatest influence over what comes next in my career.
"Until this point, I might not have reached my full potential, but at the same time, I'm content to be back within the Red Bull team. We'll continue to push ahead."
"I don't believe [Perez's contract extension] guarantees it will never occur. Let's wait and see. Should I remain here next year, I'll be content."
Tsunoda, on the other hand, expressed his desire for "greater dedication" from Red Bull, aiming to secure a spot with them for an additional season.
Tsunoda expressed a desire for increased dedication in the agreement, stating, "Clearly, I'm deeply involved with Red Bull and am looking forward to potentially receiving greater dedication from their side."
The conversation is ongoing, and initially, it's crucial that we understand each other regarding Red Bull. Following that, we can decide on the next steps. However, I'm pleased with RB.
"Over the next two years, Perez must continue to deliver results, and in such a dynamic setting, various outcomes are possible. Therefore, hats off to him. As for myself, my priority remains to concentrate on my own path and to keep demonstrating my capabilities."
"I need to focus on improving and developing further, while also hoping that Red Bull will recognize and appreciate my growth and the potential I have to perform better, which could potentially alter my future prospects with them."
