Ricciardo’s Hope Amid Speculation: Aiming to Keep Smiling with RB’s Strong Start at Singapore GP
Amidst circulating rumors, Daniel Ricciardo remains optimistic, aiming to keep his spirits up following RB's impressive opening performance. He aspires for RB to carry their initial strong performance into the qualifying rounds in Singapore.
Daniel Ricciardo is aiming to keep his spirits high following a promising beginning to the Formula 1 weekend in Singapore with Team RB.
Both drivers from RB managed to secure positions within the top 10 during both practice sessions on Friday, signaling a promising and impressive beginning to the weekend's events in Singapore.
Yuki Tsunoda secured a position within the top four in the second free practice, closely followed by Ricciardo in sixth place, narrowly missing out by just 0.004 seconds to McLaren's Oscar Piastri, who positioned himself between the pair from Red Bull.
"Both of us had a great day as a team," Ricciardo expressed to F1TV.
"In the afternoon session, we ended up in fourth and sixth place. Remarkably, the four of us were separated by just two hundredths of a second, indicating an extremely tight competition."
"We're quite pleased with the vehicle, just needs a bit of adjustment."
"It felt great to find ourselves among the leaders. It seems we have a strong offering this time."
"The previous instances we utilized substantial downforce were at Zandvoort and Budapest, where our performance was noteworthy. It's possible that this particular track, with its preference for larger wings and circuit design, aligns better with our car's capabilities."
"Initially, we believed we would perform well in Baku, but that wasn't the case due to our struggles with low downforce."
"The increased downforce configuration seems to be more favorable for us. We're optimistic that this condition will persist into tomorrow, allowing us to maintain our joy and exclaim, 'What a gem!'"
Ricciardo and Red Bull's improvement in their performance coincides with a weekend filled with rampant speculation regarding the future of the 35-year-old Australian driver.
Ricciardo is vying with Red Bull's backup driver, Liam Lawson, for the last Red Bull seat next to Tsunoda for the 2025 season. However, rumors have emerged that he might be replaced as soon as the upcoming race.
On Thursday, he acknowledged that he is uncertain about keeping his position, but anticipates a decision after the race in Singapore this weekend.
Sky Sports F1's color analyst Martin Brundle is convinced that Singapore will mark Ricciardo's last race in his current seat.
"From what I gather, Daniel won’t be competing in the upcoming grand prix in Austin, but he will stay within the Red Bull team," Brundle stated.
"They are interested in observing Liam Lawson's performance for various reasons. Had Daniel experienced a more successful season, it would have significantly impacted not only the junior team at RB but also the main team at Red Bull."
"Things haven't progressed as he hoped. I don't foresee him driving in Austin."
