Ralf Schumacher Calls Out Red Bull’s Technical Struggles Post-Newey Departure: Is Pierre Wache the Weak Link?
Ralf Schumacher points out a vulnerability in Red Bull's team following Adrian Newey's departure. According to Schumacher, a crucial member of Red Bull's technical staff is currently "not fully prepared for the role."
Former Formula 1 racer Ralf Schumacher thinks that Red Bull's head of technical operations, Pierre Wache, is currently struggling to meet the demands of his role as the team's performance declines.
Red Bull is no longer at the top of the F1 constructors' championship standings and hasn't secured a victory in a grand prix since June's race in Spain.
As the United States Grand Prix approaches next weekend, McLaren boasts the quickest car in Formula 1, despite Max Verstappen still leading the drivers’ championship.
The decline of Red Bull happened at the same time as Adrian Newey's departure, which was revealed during the Miami Grand Prix.
Christian Horner has stated that Adrian Newey leaving has not affected the team, emphasizing that Red Bull has been planning for the departure of the F1 icon for some time now.
Wache serves as the technical director for Red Bull and is the mastermind responsible for their Formula 1 cars.
Schumacher thinks that Wache cannot transform Red Bull's fortunes in the way that Newey did.
In an interview with Sport.de, Schumacher expressed that the team is facing challenges due to some members departing or considering departure, and finding suitable replacements for them is proving difficult.
"I suspect, though I could be mistaken, that [Wache] might not be fully prepared for the job."
"While he is undoubtedly an intelligent thinker, he lacks the creativity and style that Newey possessed."
"It appears to be unable to connect the driver with a perfectly performing car."
"I truly wish Red Bull figures it out, though at this moment, I find it hard to picture."
"I suspect we're in for a challenging period, particularly if Max Verstappen decides to depart, as he was clearly the key factor in the outcome of the recent race in Singapore."
Red Bull is looking to bounce back in Austin, where they, along with several other teams, plan to unveil their last updates of the season.
