Pramac Yamaha Secures Oliveira as First Rider: Could Moto2 Sensation Arbolino Join the Ranks?
Pramac Yamaha is rumored to have selected their initial MotoGP rider, with the possibility of a newcomer joining the team as well. Sky Italia reports that Yamaha's new satellite team has identified a new rider.
According to reports, Miguel Oliveira has been selected by Pramac Yamaha as the inaugural MotoGP racer for their upcoming phase.
According to Sky Italia, Oliveira, who is currently with Trackhouse Aprilia, is set to ink a two-year contract with Pramac before the British MotoGP.
According to a report from Italy, Yamaha remains committed to Fabio Quartararo and Alex Rins, though Rins has not yet signed a contract. Additionally, Yamaha has made significant progress on their new satellite team initiative.
Once Oliveira is chosen, the focus will shift to determining who his partner will be.
According to Sky Italia, Moto2 rising star Tony Arbolino "might have a potential opportunity" and will be assessed in the upcoming rounds.
Pramac, the team managed by Paolo Campinoti, has made the significant decision to leave Ducati and partner with Yamaha starting in 2025.
This implies they will abandon the top-performing bike in MotoGP for one that currently trails behind the Ducatis, Aprilias, and KTMs.
Pramac's existing racers, Jorge Martin and Franco Morbidelli, had no intention of continuing with the project as it moved to Yamaha.
As a result, a revamped pair was required, and it is now reported that Pramac has selected their initial rider.
Oliveira has ridden both KTM and Aprilia bikes in MotoGP.
He has secured victory in five grand prix races, though his last win was in 2022.
During the latest MotoGP event in Germany, Oliveira showcased his skills brilliantly, marking Trackhouse's top showing since their rebranding earlier this year.
He secured the second position in qualifying, ended the sprint race in second place, and finished the main race in sixth place.
Significantly, Trackhouse, the team he is currently with, announced that Raul Fernandez, who is Oliveira’s teammate, has secured a new deal for the upcoming two years. However, Oliveira was not mentioned in the announcement.
