Pramac Yamaha Secures Miguel Oliveira for New MotoGP Chapter, Eyes Rookie Talent Tony Arbolino as Potential Teammate
Sky Italia reports suggest that Yamaha's upcoming satellite squad has selected their initial MotoGP rider.
According to sources, Pramac Yamaha has selected Miguel Oliveira to lead their MotoGP team into a new chapter.
Sky Italia has revealed that Oliveira, who is currently racing for Trackhouse Aprilia, will ink a two-year contract with Pramac before the British MotoGP event.
Yamaha has decided to continue its partnership with Fabio Quartarazzo while also showing trust in Alex Rins (who has not signed a contract yet) for their official team endeavors. Additionally, they have made a significant move towards establishing a new satellite initiative, according to reports from Italy.
With Oliveira chosen, focus will shift to identifying his teammate.
Sky Italia suggests that Moto2 sensation Tony Arbolino "might stand a chance" and will undergo assessment in the upcoming races.
Pramac, under the leadership of Paolo Campinoti, has made the significant move to depart from Ducati and align with Yamaha starting in 2025.
This indicates they are switching from the top-performing motorcycle in the MotoGP lineup to a bike that currently ranks below the Ducatis, Aprilias, and KTMs.
Pramac's existing team members, Jorge Martin and Franco Morbidelli, had no intentions of continuing with the project under Yamaha's direction.
Consequently, a refreshed pair was necessary, and Pramac has allegedly selected their inaugural rider.
Oliveira has spent time competing on both KTM and Aprilia motorcycles in the MotoGP series.
He has clinched victory in five grand prix events, though his last win dates back to 2022.
In the latest MotoGP race in Germany, Oliveira showcased his impressive skills with Trackhouse's top performance since their rebranding earlier this year.
He secured the second position in the qualifiers, ended the sprint race in second place, and concluded the grand prix in sixth place.
Significantly, Trackhouse, the team Oliveira is part of, announced that Raul Fernandez, Oliveira's team member, has secured a deal for another two years. However, they did not comment on Oliveira's situation.
