Perez’s Red Bull Stability Threatened by Performance Woes and Ricciardo’s Shadow: Contracts Under Scrutiny
Sergio Perez receives caution: "Do contracts truly hold their value?"
"Should Daniel consistently deliver impressive results and Checo fails to…"
Sergio Perez has been cautioned that his recent contract with Red Bull offers no safeguard against the consequences of underperforming.
Perez concluded the heated discussions about Red Bull's 2025 team composition by signing a renewal of his contract that was set to end this year.
Yet, following a disappointing performance at the F1 Canadian Grand Prix last weekend, he has been cautioned that competitors such as Daniel Ricciardo remain a potential risk to take his place.
Natalie Pinkham expressed her astonishment on the F1 Nation podcast regarding the swift re-signing and announcement of Perez's contract by the team.
"The strategy seems effective for Max Verstappen. It's possible there are undisclosed developments occurring offstage…
"Sergio is undoubtedly an excellent racing driver."
Tom Clarkson responded, saying, "He wasn't present in Montreal!"
Pinkham added, "Unfortunately, he wasn't. It's disappointing, considering the expectation that the surge in confidence from securing a new deal would have eased his nerves.
"Sergio performs optimally when he's at ease, free from concerns, allowing him to act instinctively."
"If Daniel consistently delivers impressive performances and Checo fails to do so, then what value do these contracts actually hold?"
"I'm skeptical. They would figure something out."
"Similarly, it comes as no shock that Daniel hasn't been reinstated into the squad."
He acknowledged that his season began poorly.
The performance in the Miami sprint, along with the qualifying round and the actual race in Montreal, clearly demonstrates that he has retained all of his skill.
Clarkson mentioned, "We'll closely monitor Perez's development."
His performance has suffered in the last three races, a period that aligns with when the Red Bulls showed their weakest form of the season.
As the vehicle becomes challenging to maneuver, the distance between Checo and Max increases.
"When we head to Barcelona, the vehicle will be improved and Checo will be more competitive."
"And if he isn't? That's the time to start raising questions."
Perez failed to make the qualifying cut in Canada, ending up in a disappointing 13th place on the starting grid.
Last Sunday, he was unable to complete the grand prix, crashing into the barriers at Turn 6.
In addition to a disappointing weekend that saw his teammate Verstappen take the win, Perez faced further misfortune with a grid penalty for the upcoming Spanish Grand Prix due to remaining on the circuit excessively with a damaged vehicle.
