Pedro Acosta Charges into Motegi with High Hopes After Stellar Performance in Indonesia
Pedro Acosta is displaying exceptional performance, confidently navigating the track with ease after an impressive second-place finish.
Narrowly missing out on a win by only 1.4 seconds behind Jorge Martin for his first-ever MotoGP triumph last Sunday in Mandalika, GASGAS Tech3's team leader, Nicolas Goyon, remarked that newcomer Pedro Acosta is showing exceptional performance as they approach this weekend's race in Motegi.
The track in Japan is known for its intense braking demands, a feature that typically benefits the RC16 and Acosta, who secured third place at last year's Moto2 Grand Prix in Japan.
"Goyon stated, "We barely had a moment to compose ourselves and celebrate Pedro Acosta's incredible second-place finish in Indonesia."
The final race in the initial series of three takes place at the renowned Motegi track, distinguished by its unique stop-and-go design. It stands out as one of the few tracks approved for the use of larger brake discs provided by Brembo.
Halting the bicycle at this point tests both the rider's physical capabilities and the bike's performance, yet it stands as a testament to our bike's resilience, which has been demonstrated through its impressive track record.
"Pedro Acosta is showing exceptional performance, I'm confident he'll quickly adapt to the circuit to maintain his strong performance, and we're eagerly anticipating his return to the track."
Acosta, emerging unscathed from a scrutiny over tyre pressure prior to being officially recognized for matching his top MotoGP result, has also reclaimed the fifth position in the world championship standings, overtaking his soon-to-be teammate Brad Binder.
"Acosta expressed optimism about the upcoming race in Japan, highlighting his past success at Motegi during his Moto2 days and the expectation that their motorcycle will perform strongly there, based on the outcomes from the previous season."
"After our successful performance in Mandalika, we're in high spirits and optimistic. Our aim is to maintain this positive streak, strive to be contenders right from Friday, and then assess our prospects."
"Excited to compete in front of the fans in Japan!"
As Acosta seeks to gain momentum, his colleague Augusto Fernandez is in search of a fresh start.
"Fernandez expressed eagerness for the upcoming races in Japan, highlighting the difficulties faced in the last two events. He emphasized his desire to overcome the team's challenges, return to riding, and regain his confidence, especially after a technical malfunction sidelined him during the Mandalika Grand Prix."
However, the predicted rainy conditions may benefit Fernandez this weekend, as he secured a seventh-place finish in the rain-drenched 2023 Grand Prix.
"I'm quite fond of Motegi, having achieved impressive outcomes there before, especially with last year's MotoGP. I'm eagerly looking forward to reconnecting with our fans in Japan and competing there again!" he expressed.
Fernandez is anticipated to become a test rider for the Japanese company Yamaha in the upcoming season.
