Oliveira’s Best Effort Falls Short as Ducati Dominates at Sachsenring
Miguel Oliveira stated that he "just didn’t have enough to challenge Ducati" after delivering his top performance of the season at Sachsenring, acknowledging that he lacked the ability to compete with the Ducatis that day.
Miguel Oliveira secured sixth place at the German MotoGP after engaging in initial duels with Francesco Bagnaia, Franco Morbidelli, and Alex Marquez.
The Trackhouse racer was the sole competitor who could challenge Ducati, but gradually fell behind as the race progressed.
Oliveira fell to seventh place after being passed by Marc Marquez and Enea Bastianini at the last corner but moved up a spot when Jorge Martin crashed on the second-to-last lap.
“It was definitely an excellent weekend,” Oliveira remarked. “We achieved highly competitive lap times and secured strong finishes in both the Qualifying and the Sprint.”
"Today marked the initial significant hurdle I encountered in the extended competition over the weekend."
"We couldn't match the Ducatis today – their speed and traction were on another level."
"It's disappointing that I couldn't compete more because throughout the weekend, I was riding well, maintaining a smooth performance, and managing the tyres effectively. However, today just wasn't enough."
Similar to the sprint event on Saturday, Raul Fernandez, who is teammates with Oliveira, fell back in the standings after beginning the race next to the Portuguese racer in the front row.
Though the decline wasn't as drastic as in the sprint, Fernandez ended up securing the tenth position in the race.
Fernandez stated, "We needed to thoroughly examine what occurred yesterday to comprehend the problem we experienced during the Sprint. Additionally, it was crucial for me to have a report before today's race."
"Handling the Sprint yesterday proved to be quite challenging, so I was curious about what today's race would entail."
“The group performed well, and we received valuable insights this morning based on yesterday's activities."
"I realized the issue I encountered during the Sprint, so I concentrated intensely on my performance in the race, believing we had the potential to succeed."
"However, during the race itself, despite giving it my all, I had nothing left, particularly in the latter half of the competition."
"In the initial 15 laps, I was competing with the front group and Miguel, but from lap 15 onwards, I had difficulties with the tire."
"We attempted to manage it the best way I knew how during the race, but it was challenging, making the final stretch tough. I gave it my all, and we finished in the top 10. Overall, the weekend was fairly decent."
