Norris Encouraged to Get ‘Elbows Out’ Against Verstappen’s ‘Intimidation Factor’ in Upcoming Silverstone Clash
Lando Norris offers a strategy to counter Max Verstappen's "intimidation effect"
"Several racers, Hamilton among them, noted 'your mindset changes when competing against Max'"
Lando Norris has been encouraged to adopt a more aggressive stance and be ready to fiercely compete if he finds himself in another showdown with Max Verstappen at Silverstone.
Norris was visibly upset with his buddy Verstappen following a collision at the Austrian Grand Prix last weekend, which cut his promising race short.
In yet another instance of relentless racing, Verstappen faced a 10-second penalty. Despite this, he left Austria having widened the gap in his championship lead over Norris, who was in second place.
"Karun Chandhok shared with Sky Sports that, based on observations from the last few years, Max showcases the same relentless and formidable racing style that was characteristic of legends like Michael Schumacher and Ayrton Senna."
"Lando will keep that in mind."
It's clear that during that specific event, Max was the individual who changed his position and veered off his path, shifting towards the left side.
"However, he's not the pioneer in this regard. Last year, similar actions were observed from Carlos Sainz and Max."
"Sebastian Vettel and Lewis Hamilton managed to prevent any collision between them."
It seemed like an awkward maneuver. Max attempted to push Lando aside, ensuring Lando couldn't accelerate into the next turn. That's what appeared to have occurred.
Max rightfully accepted responsibility and the consequent punishment.
"The next time Lando and Max are side by side on the track, Lando might find himself wondering if he needs to allow Max a bit more space compared to other competitors."
The inquiry was raised: Is Verstappen from Red Bull deliberately aiming for an 'intimidation effect' against his main competitors?
Chandhok responded, "I believe he has accomplished it."
"Several racers, Hamilton among them, mentioned that 'your mindset changes when you compete against Max'."
"That's the strategy employed by legends like Senna and Schumacher. They would psych out their competitors long before they actually went head-to-head on the track."
Chandhok commented on their recent altercation, stating, “This situation was unlike the incident with Lewis at Silverstone in 2021, where he aggressively positioned his car and refused to back down.
"Two drivers attempted to occupy the same stretch of road simultaneously in a clumsy manner, resulting in an awkward collision involving the rear wheel."
Significantly, McLaren's Norris has received instructions to aggressively counter his rivals at this weekend's F1 British Grand Prix.
Chandhok stated, "Lando truly had a shot at winning in the previous three races, yet he didn't secure a victory in any of them."
"Securing a win on home soil at the British Grand Prix? Battling it out with Max? I anticipate he'll be more aggressive in his maneuvers."
