In light of Russia's ongoing war against Ukraine, the parliament on Wednesday reiterated its stance that the EU must support Kyiv until Ukraine achieves victory.
Seizure of Russian state funds frozen by the EU
Lawmakers are adamant that Russia should bear the financial responsibility for the devastation in Ukraine. They commend the EU's recent initiatives to use funds from frozen Russian assets to aid Ukraine's war efforts. Additionally, they call for a "robust legal framework" to enable the EU to seize Russian state assets.
The legislative body has expressed approval of the outcomes from the latest NATO summit, reaffirming its position that Ukraine is on an irreversible path to becoming a NATO member. The lawmakers are urging the EU and its member states to provide increased military support to Ukraine, for as long and in any manner necessary.
Members of Parliament are urging the European Commission to propose a long-term financial aid plan for Ukraine's reconstruction, leveraging the insights gained from the recently established Ukraine Facility.
The parliament strongly condemns Russia's brutal missile attack on the children's hospital Ochmatdyt in Kyiv and criticizes the recent visit of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán to the Russian Federation. Orbán does not represent the EU, and his trip constitutes a blatant breach of EU treaties and the bloc's unified foreign policy. Consequently, the text asserts that Hungary should face repercussions for this action.
According to the resolution, the immediate attack on the children's hospital in Okhmatdyt following Hungarian Prime Minister Orbán's so-called "peace mission" highlights the "irrelevance" of his purported efforts for peace.
