Miguel Oliveira’s Future Hangs in the Balance: Trackhouse Aprilia or Yamaha’s Pramac Project?
Two motorcycles are in contention, but Miguel Oliveira is expected to make a "smart choice." Although Oliveira "hasn't impressed" the factory Aprilia team, he still has two alternatives available.
Miguel Oliveira has received support in making the right choice regarding his future plans.
Staying with Trackhouse Aprilia is a possible choice even though his contract is ending, but Yamaha's new Pramac initiative is also reportedly interested in him.
Next season, Oliveira was passed over for a spot on the factory Aprilia team, with the team choosing Jorge Martin and Marco Bezzecchi instead.
"He hasn't achieved enough to deserve it," Michael Laverty commented on TNT Sports.
"Everyone is aware of Miguel’s talent, but performing consistently is crucial in this sport."
On the Saturday of the German MotoGP, Oliveira experienced his most outstanding day of 2024.
He secured the second position in qualifying and maintained that spot in the sprint race, finishing behind Martin. On Sunday, Oliveira came in sixth, showcasing his skills.
Laverty mentioned that having established a solid base set-up, he can now focus on fine-tuning the details when he gets to the track, which is crucial for maximizing performance and honing his riding style.
"He hadn't discovered the perfect balance before, but now he has."
"It’s known that Yamaha is interested in him due to his reputation as one of the smartest riders in the competition."
He possesses both experience and youth. If they tap into his potential, it could be very high.
"It's clear why Yamaha would present him with a contract."
"Would he choose that option instead of signing the Trackhouse contract since he was overlooked for the factory Aprilia team? Possibly not."
"He’s a smart jockey who will choose wisely."
Sylvain Guintoli commented that Yamaha would undoubtedly be a good fit for him, regardless of whether he chooses to join them.
"With Davide Brivio on board, the collaboration between Trackhouse and Aprilia is beginning to come together."
Typically, it's like a snowball rolling downhill; improvements keep building upon each other, boosting your confidence. When you're in that positive cycle, you don't want it to end. Recently, we've observed some very promising trends, and this isn't just a fluke.
"I sympathize with Miguel for what happened last year; it wasn't his fault. He was fast and adapted to the Aprilia right away, but he got injured in Portimao and then again in Jerez."
"He needed some time to recover. It's great when you have the ability to bounce back and make a return."
Paolo Campinoti, the head of Pramac, plans to transition his team from Ducati to Yamaha next season. For the revamped team in 2025, he is looking at seasoned riders Miguel Oliveira and Jack Miller as potential candidates.
