Mercedes Gears Up for Spanish Grand Prix with Strategic Upgrades, Including New Floor
Mercedes is set to introduce additional F1 improvements, including a new floor, at the Spanish Grand Prix.
Mercedes is preparing to unveil a new floor design for their vehicles at the next week's F1 Spanish Grand Prix.
The team based in Brackley experienced their most successful weekend of the year to date at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve.
George Russell secured Mercedes' initial pole position since last year's Hungary race, tying with Max Verstappen during the qualifying round.
Despite not transforming his pole position into a victory, Russell clinched Mercedes' inaugural podium finish of the season, and arguably, he was driving the quickest car under dry weather conditions.
If not for several errors, Russell might have contended with Verstappen in the final laps.
Mercedes has been incorporating fresh components into the W15, crediting a novel front wing first seen in Monaco for their recent resurgence.
"Wolff expressed that, undoubtedly, starting from Imola, they've made positive advancements and added components to the vehicle that are functioning effectively, addressing issues they had faced over the previous years."
"Currently, it appears that we are making progress in terms of performance each weekend, and we are expecting new enhancements soon. We have updates scheduled to arrive in Barcelona that ought to aid us. Hence, I am quite optimistic that we will maintain this upward trend."
Although the front wing has garnered significant focus, Wolff emphasized the efforts being put into parts of the car that aren't apparent at first glance.
"Wolff mentioned, "At times, introducing a noticeable component such as bodywork or a front wing becomes the main topic of discussion regarding performance enhancements."
"However, the reality is that, across the past three races, we've introduced numerous upgrades, both apparent and hidden, that have enhanced performance by milliseconds."
"I believe this is the point at which those small improvements start to yield beneficial outcomes. It was a tremendous endeavor by the factory, so I feel like the wheel is finally beginning to turn with significant momentum."
