Mercedes Aiming for Victory with New F1 Upgrades Despite Challenges, Says Toto Wolff
Mercedes acknowledges that their current vehicle isn't capable of consistently competing for wins as they aim for additional Formula 1 enhancements.
Mercedes chief Toto Wolff has disclosed that his team is diligently striving to introduce additional enhancements to boost the W15's Formula 1 capabilities before the August summer hiatus.
Mercedes has seen a notable improvement in recent races, with an upgrade introduced at the Monaco Grand Prix significantly boosting their season's performance.
The squad has secured victories in two competitions, solidly positioning themselves as contenders alongside Red Bull and McLaren.
Mercedes secured the top two positions on the grid in their previous outing at Silverstone and went on to lead the initial phase of the race when the weather was clear.
Ahead of the upcoming Hungarian Grand Prix this weekend, Mercedes plans to introduce additional upgrades.
"Wolff expressed optimism about the upcoming back-to-back races, stating, 'We're going into the next two races with strong momentum.' He highlighted the team's ongoing improvements with the W15, which have culminated in standout performances in Austria and Silverstone."
"Nonetheless, it's clear that our vehicle isn't at the stage where it can consistently compete for wins each weekend. Our team is diligently working on implementing further improvements in performance, with the aspiration that these enhancements will allow us to achieve that goal."
"The push will persist through the upcoming two races and won’t cease until operations come to a halt."
Mercedes is uncertain if their strong showing at Silverstone can be replicated in Hungary, given the notably distinct conditions of the track.
This weekend, Hungary is anticipated to experience temperatures exceeding 30 degrees, contrasting sharply with the conditions at the British Grand Prix.
Evaluating Mercedes' prospects in Hungary, Wolff mentioned: "The Hungaroring has a distinct layout compared to the previous tracks. Contrary to Silverstone, it is composed of numerous narrow and winding parts, with only one significant straight."
"The track also features several fast corners, providing us with another opportunity to evaluate our improvements in handling corners at various speeds. Our aim for the weekend is to concentrate on delivering our utmost performance."
"Our aim is to continue on this upward path and conclude the initial half of the season with as much strength as we can muster."
