Marco Bezzecchi’s Bold Tyre Strategy Secures Fourth Place in Emilia-Romagna MotoGP
Marco Bezzecchi's Emilia Romagna MotoGP tyre strategy proves successful
"Our team had a good strategy with that particular tyre, and I felt confident about managing it effectively throughout the race."
Marco Bezzecchi secured a fourth-place finish at the Emilia-Romagna MotoGP, even though he opted for an unconventional tire selection.
In the recent MotoGP race, the Italian competitor stood out as the sole rider among the 22 participants to opt for the soft-compound rear tyre on the past Sunday. This choice mirrored that of Enea Bastianini during the San Marino Grand Prix held at the Misano World Circuit two weeks prior, where he experienced a loss of grip towards the race's conclusion.
Bezzecchi's performance in Emilia-Romagna may not have matched Bastianini's showing in San Marino, yet he still managed to achieve his most outstanding Sunday finish at the second Misano event since his podium finish in Jerez, thanks to his unconventional tyre selection.
Bezzecchi expressed satisfaction with his performance at the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix, speaking to MotoGP.com. "The race went well," he remarked. "I kicked off strongly, and although I typically find the initial turns a bit challenging, I really pushed myself."
"I stood alone in selecting the soft compound for the rear tyre, which indeed was somewhat of a risk. However, our performance with that tyre was commendable, leading me to be fairly confident in its durability towards the race's conclusion."
Later on, while trailing Marc Marquez, I made an effort to keep up with him, gradually closing the gap as we approached Pedro Acosta.
"Subsequently, Pedro encountered an error, and as a result, I began to fall slightly behind Marc. Nonetheless, I managed to maintain a decent gap and didn't fall back as significantly as I had in previous races."
"I'm truly delighted as my pace remained steady across all 27 laps, making it a strong weekend overall."
