Marco Bezzecchi’s Bold Tyre Gamble Pays Off with Strong Fourth Place Finish at Emilia-Romagna MotoGP
Marco Bezzecchi's risky decision regarding the tyre selection for the Emilia Romagna MotoGP turned out to be successful. He confidently stated, "Our efforts with that tyre were excellent, so I was pretty certain I could handle it well until the finish."
Marco Bezzecchi secured a fourth-place finish at the Emilia-Romagna MotoGP, even though he opted for an unconventional tire selection.
Last Sunday, among the 22 MotoGP riders, the Italian stood out as the sole competitor opting for the soft-compound rear tyre. Enea Bastianini had previously selected this tyre during the San Marino Grand Prix at the same Misano World Circuit two weeks prior, but he experienced a loss of grip towards the race's conclusion.
While Bezzecchi's performance in Emilia-Romagna wasn't as good as Bastianini's in San Marino, he still managed to achieve his best Sunday finish at the second Misano race since his podium finish in Jerez, thanks to his unconventional tyre selection.
Following the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix, Bezzecchi shared with MotoGP.com that he felt the race went well. He mentioned getting off to a strong start despite experiencing some difficulties in the initial turns, but he remained determined and competitive.
"I was the sole rider using the soft compound rear tire. It was somewhat of a risk, but we managed it effectively, so I was confident I could handle it successfully until the finish."
"Later, as I was trailing Marc [Marquez], I attempted to stay on his tail and gradually closed the gap between us as we approached Pedro [Acosta]."
“After Pedro made an error, I began to fall behind Marc slightly. However, I managed to maintain a reasonable gap and didn't lose as much ground as I had in previous races."
“I’m really pleased as my pace remained steady throughout all 27 laps, making it a strong weekend overall.”
