Marc Marquez’s Ducati Debut: High Ratings Despite Elusive Win – Crash MotoGP Podcast Analysis
Analyzed: Marc Marquez's performance this season with a critical evaluation
No victories yet, but some remarkable recovery rides…
The most recent episode of the Crash MotoGP podcast featured an in-depth discussion about Marc Marquez's performance this season.
Despite not having secured his first victory on a Ducati, he has shown sufficient promise to earn a spot on the manufacturer's official team for the upcoming year.
After completing nine of the 20 rounds, Marquez holds the third position in the championship standings, trailing leader Pecco Bagnaia by 56 points.
However, importantly, the grin has resurfaced following a challenging phase at Repsol Honda that concluded last year.
Here's our team's evaluation of the Gresini rider's performance in 2024 up to this point…
"He doesn't have that grand prix victory," Jordan Moreland commented. "I might have rated him an 8. However, it's an 8.5 because of his impressive recovery rides."
"He began in 13th and 14th positions and ended up on the grand prix podium. The performances were outstanding."
"It's been fantastic to witness his return to top form. Securing the factory Ducati seat for next year plays a role in this resurgence."
"However, he has yet to secure a grand prix victory. He'll be let down by not clinching the win at the Sachsenring. The weekend was full of highs and lows."
"In the COTA grand prix, Marquez faced some challenges, and during the sprint at Jerez, he encountered problems with wet areas. Despite these minor setbacks, Marquez is having an excellent season overall."
Peter McLaren gave Marquez a score of 8/10, summarizing his performance this season as "mission accomplished."
He mentioned that the individual went to Gresini with the intention of rejuvenating his career and determining if he still finds joy in racing and possesses the necessary skills. Clearly, he does.
"He has already secured the contract with the factory Ducati team. What an eventful six months."
"The only thing missing is a victory."
"However, consider his position relative to the others riding identical bikes."
"A score ranging from 8 to 9 would be reasonable."
Robert Jones also gave Marquez a score of 8 out of 10, commenting, "I believe he has been outstanding."
"People often assume that elite athletes like Marc Marquez can easily transition from riding a Honda to a Ducati without any difficulties."
"Given how much time he spent riding a Honda, it's a significant challenge to adapt. However, his transition to the Ducati has been impressive. Despite still being in the early stages of adjusting, he's already competing effectively against riders like Martin and Bagnaia. I believe he's shown exceptional skill."
"The victory eluded him. In terms of speed, he had the potential to win at Jerez, Le Mans, and Sachsenring. He was leading the sprint at Jerez but ended up crashing out."
"There have been opportunities, and he’s missed them. However, despite not securing a victory, his return on a new bike has been nothing less than remarkable."
"The distance to the other GP23 riders? Fabio di Giannantonio has been narrowing it somewhat, but at the Sachsenring, Marquez demonstrated that he still holds an advantage over them."
"This season has been excellent."
"Ducati made the correct choice by selecting him to team up with Bagnaia for the next season."
"I believe he will secure a victory eventually this season. His debut season with Ducati has started off very well."
