Marc Marquez Opens Up About Real Possibilities with KTM and Aprilia, Shakes Up 2025 MotoGP Line-Up
Marc Marquez confirms that switching to KTM or Aprilia was “a genuine and achievable possibility”
Marc Marquez inquires about "option C" proposals
Marc Marquez has affirmed that switching from Ducati to either KTM or Aprilia was a real possibility.
Marquez was the pivotal figure in determining the roster of riders for the 2025 MotoGP season, ultimately securing a spot with Ducati's official team for the upcoming year.
However, he asserts that KTM and Aprilia also presented offers.
"He described it as a strategy," he told DAZN.
The choice turned out to be option C, indeed. However, it's worth noting that there are also two other successful brands, both originating from Europe.
"They've developed an effective strategy, showing significant improvement over time. Their success in competitions confirms that, indeed, it was a viable and practical choice."
However, Marquez edged out Jorge Martin for the coveted red motorcycle slot in 2025.
As a consequence, Aprilia brought on board Martin and Marco Bezzecchi, whereas KTM welcomed Maverick Vinales and Enea Bastianini to join their Tech3 squad.
Marc Marquez comments on Ducati's diminished involvement
The departure of Pramac from Ducati in favor of Yamaha is set to significantly decrease the number of Ducati bikes in the upcoming season's lineup.
"Being a fan of Ducati, I now find it better when eight Ducatis are racing on the track, as it provides more data," Marquez commented.
"However, for those who follow MotoGP, it's essential to have four Yamahas competing, not eight Ducatis."
Marquez currently occupies the third position in the MotoGP rankings as the series heads into the upcoming race at Silverstone. He trails the front-runner, Pecco Bagnaia, by 56 points, who will be his team partner in the next season.
He has yet to secure his first race victory while riding a Ducati.
When DAZN inquired about the number of additional titles he thinks he's capable of securing, Marquez confidently responded, "At least one."
Currently, he is competing against Bagnaia and Martin for the championship of this season.
When questioned about which competitor was more formidable, he responded, "At the moment, Pecco.
His mental resilience is crucial. Following that, the outcomes.
"His progress is picking up pace, a trend that might shift, yet it's quite alarming."
